Looking back at our busiest month to date this year, July was a big one for Gorditos.

From weddings and birthdays to corporate events and intimate celebrations, we found ourselves bringing pica-pica to more tables, more places, and more people than ever before.

It was a month of packed weekends, early mornings, long days, and a whole lot of food going out of our kitchen.

But more than the numbers, what made July special was being trusted to be part of so many celebrations.

Thank you to everyone who chose Gorditos, recommended us, and welcomed us into your celebrations.

Hola from Barcelona Part 1 of 3 💛

One of the very first dishes we ever made for Gorditos six years ago was Berenjenas con Miel.

"Eggplant... with honey?" That was my first reaction too. I first came across it at Bormuth in El Born, back when I lived in Barcelona. It stayed with me long enough to earn a place on our very first Gorditos menu.

I still come back to Barcelona every year, and this time, my friend Mike who was visiting the city for the first time asked me for a tapas bar recommendation. We ended up back at Bormuth and ordered the berenjenas, Chorizo a la Sidra (chorizo cooked in cider), and patatas bravas. We still serve our own version of the Chorizo a la Sidra at both Gorditos and Kurot as a party tray.

We don't serve Berenjenas con Miel anymore. As much as we loved it, it just never worked for catering. By the time it reached an event, it wasn't the same dish anymore. Looking back, I think that's one of the lessons Gorditos taught us early on. A great restaurant dish doesn't always make a great catering dish.

This is the first of three posts from Barcelona. I can't wait to share a few of the dishes and places that inspired some of our favorite menu items at Gorditos and Kurot: The Aperitivos Company.

Six years ago, Gorditos was a weekend project in our home kitchen. Back then, if you wanted to find us, there was a good chance we were arguing about packaging, making croquetas at midnight, or trying to figure out how many trays would fit in the family car.

Since then, Gorditos has taken us to places we never expected. More importantly, it introduced us to people we never would have met otherwise. Along the way, a small family project became a team. Watching that team grow has been one of the best parts of the journey.

To everyone who ordered, recommended us, worked with us, or simply cheered us on, thank you. Salamat. Agyaman kami. Mil gracias.
