One week of July, this week in particular, is dedicated for mommies who want to share in school about their jobs, or hobbies for moms like me who aren't working. I excitedly registered to join Mommy Week despite my fear of talking in front of large groups. Well, my son's class is not really large, they are only 10 plus two teachers, but I felt a bit nervous because I have never presented in front of a bunch of kids! I thought, what if they ask out-of-this-world questions? Oh well, I would just tell the kids to ask Teacher Niña and Teacher Rica for answers after my discussion. Sounds like a plan! And so, this day I was scheduled to share my hobby, which is How to Make Balloons. Since my “business” partner Janice is currently out of the country, I asked Ieuan's yaya to assist me during the show and tell. I introduced myself, asked their names, and told them what I would be sharing. I was almost sure of what their reactions would be once they learn what we would be making -- they all smiled with excitement! But I had to explain first the things that we needed in making a balloon. Those who knew the answers raised their hands -- a balloon, an inflator, a balloon cap, a balloon stick, scissors, and ribbons. Then, one kid shouted, "How about air?". Oh, right. I forgot to put that on my checklist! Then we started the demonstration. I asked them to choose the colors they want. They listened as I explained the steps, and even asked me if they could help in pumping air into the balloons. I made one balloon for each kid and told them they could bring them home after. I think the kids liked what we did today, and surprisingly, I enjoyed it too! Thank goodness no one asked me how a balloon expands or things like that! And ultimately, I think my son also liked what we did today -- he was the reason why I joined Mommy Week. As I went out of the room, he was looking at me proudly. Not sure why, I was teary-eyed for some time, and then I reminded myself to calm down while waiting for Ieuan to be dismissed. I waited in the car, and when finally, Ieuan went inside, he told me, "Good job, Mommy!", and gave me a high-five. And that confirmed my thoughts. I think it was the first time he told me I did a good job! What a feeling! I am so emotional today. :')
