——————————————————————————————————
By the late 80s, Bath duo Tears For Fears had become one of the defining acts of the so-called "Second British Invasion", riding a huge success wave alongside the likes of Queen and Elton John all initially instituted by the Live Aid show in 1985. Their soaring synth-pop anthems were carried across the world via MTV and radio, but at the time of this concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California in 1990, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith had expanded their sound into richer territory, blending elements of jazz, soul and rock in what became both a critical and commercial triumph. A massive world tour followed in 1990, bringing with it some of the band's most commanding live performances. None more so than their show at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Now officially released, this concert's setlist features a wide range of hits and beloved personal favourites. Early gems like 'Change', 'Pale Shelter' and 'Mad World' to their most recent pieces like 'Woman in Chains', 'Sowing the Seeds of Love' and 'Advice for the Young at Heart'. The inclusion of Oleta Adams, whom the band had championed since discovering her in 1985, adds depth and soul to the performance, particularly on 'Woman in Chains' and the sprawling 'Badman's Song'. Closing with thunderous renditions of 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' and 'Shout', the show is a reminder of just how powerful Tears For Fears were as a live force. Originally broadcast on KROQ-FM, this newly available vinyl version gives fans the chance to experience the group at their peak.
