Today, I was told my dog Syd went to heaven. I got him on February 14, 2012, as a gift. He was the kind of dog who would never fight back when I corrected him. He was such a sweet dog — he loved walking (they all do), loved chicken liver adobo, and would always look at me when I was around, even when I played the guitar badly.

He was a big part of my life. During a super typhoon that badly affected my city, I stayed afloat in the floods with him. In one of the pictures where he was sleeping on a Plants vs Zombies sleeping mat, he was exhausted from us trying to survive.

When I decided to work as a seafarer and had to leave, I remember how he tried to stop me from walking out the door.

Dogs, pets — they all show us that loyalty and unconditional love still exist. And no matter how bad our day is, we can always try to make it a happy one. Syd, I’ll miss you, little boy. Run free in heaven.

On my last cruise, a couple sent me a letter on Easter Sunday. I didn’t know them at all, but the letter felt so personal. It even mentioned my faith. Reading it was a little surreal because I’d never heard their names before.

Then one rainy morning, I was out on the open deck announcing a change of activity. A lady passenger walked up and asked if I’d received a letter. She introduced herself and told me how she’d come to know me through my cruise director and my podcast.

What really touched me was when she said she’d been praying for me long before they even stepped on board. That blew me away — someone from the other side of the world, who didn’t know me personally, was praying for me.

God revealed His message through her and her husband, and I feel so grateful!

Feeling good today. I walked around Darwin, Australia, and found the coffee shop that was on my must-visit list. I loved the macchiato and enjoyed the time alone. I ordered the wrong food, but it was all good. I bought a bar of my favorite chocolate, Whittaker’s, which made everything even better!

This is a bit funny. So my manager told me to attend my “graduation” from a leadership training. I cannot recall anything about it. Then I realized it happened during dry dock. I was in between tasks and forgot about it! This was also my former manager who asked me to enroll and do the training. Isn’t it cool to see yourself finish something? Hahaha
