Co-founder of creative force Sivilian Affairs and a resident on AAJA Radio, Sivanesh Pillai’s sound is rooted in rhythm and groove, going beyond trends and held together by equal amounts of acid, breakbeats, deep house and disco heat. The man behind the popular ‘Chocolate City’ and ‘Friendly Waters’ parties, he is also the music director for Potato Head and Kilo in Singapore.

*Straight, No Chaser* is a monthly vinyl-only broadcast moving through the many shades of house music. Deep house and tech house provide the foundation, occasionally giving way to leftfield detours.

Drawn to records that favour momentum over impact, the show unfolds from warm, dubby textures into sleeker, angular club sounds, where tension takes precedence over release.

Born from a growing record collection, this residency marks a new chapter for me - one shaped by a more considered approach behind the decks. Mostly house. Mostly wax. Held together by rhythm and groove.

Throwback to this Monday morning at last year 🔊

Known for its post-weekend marathon afters with well-curated lineups featuring local heroes and international guests, BC is a true Australian institution, and being there in person finally showed why. There is something special about a room that opens at 10am, fills immediately, and doesn’t let go until the sun is well past high. University students, off-duty hospitality and F&B workers, and other interesting and quirky individuals, all there for one reason; no pretense, just professional party people who genuinely love music and know how to commit to a day well spent.

This party was a big inspiration for Lilian and I to start throwing our Sunday parties in Singapore. Seeing it done at that level made us want to bring that same spirit home.

Looking forward to a cheeky weekend at with and special guest (Rhythm Section, UK) celebrating 12 years of Breakfast Club and co-founder Miss Lil’s birthday 🎂
