One afternoon, while having lunch at Robinsons Dumaguete, I received a call from a friend. She told me that someone needed help booking a ticket, and I said she could give them my number.
When I spoke with him, I asked about the travel date. He said it was for the next day and that he needed two tickets, one for himself and one for his nephew. I quickly opened my booking portal and saw that the fares were much higher than usual, almost ₱8,000 per passenger. Since there were two of them, my available funds were not enough, so I initially declined to book the tickets.
But deep inside, I really wanted to help. His voice sounded so helpless, and I felt conflicted. I knew the fares could increase even more at any moment, so I had to act quickly. I called them back and instructed them to come to Robinsons so I could assist them at the ticketing office.
When they arrived, I realized I was right, their faces showed desperation. They told me they had been scammed by someone who sold them fake tickets the week before. They urgently needed to fly the next day because they were going to New Zealand for work.
Without hesitation, I took their IDs, filled out the necessary forms, and helped them book their tickets. In the end, they left with smiles on their faces. They were very thankful and so was I.
Sometimes, it’s not about the money. It’s about the willingness to help someone in need.
