Minalayo Island (“Snake Island” / Tattoo Island)

Also referred to as Tattoo Island or “Snake Island,” Minalayo lies off the coast of Ticao Island in the municipality of Batuan, Masbate.

It’s renowned for the presence of banded sea kraits—highly venomous sea snakes that are generally non-aggressive. Many visitors have reported encountering them while snorkeling or climbing over rocks.

A vivid travel account captures the surreal sensation of “swimming among beautiful snakes, with bats flying and screeching over your head.”
