In weddings, the 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 (or recessional) is the moment after the couple is officially married, when they walk back down the aisle together, usually followed by the wedding party, while music plays. In some old traditions, throwing rice or grains during the wedding recession is a custom meant to wish the couple prosperity, fertility, and abundance in their new life together

In modern weddings, rice is sometimes replaced with confetti, stick with bells, flower petals, or bubbles for safety and style — but the meaning remains the same.

Think of it as the joyful exit march from the ceremony toward the reception. 🎶💍✨

It’s the opposite of the procession (or processional), which is when everyone walks into the ceremony at the start.
