Are you new or visiting Malolos City soon?

Here’s our list of ten places to visit in Malolos City “The Cradle of the Philippine Republic”:

1. Barasoain Church – The church is located in Paseo del Congreso and it was erected in 1885 and actually a second building because the first one was burned in May 1884. Barasoain Church is the site of the very First Philippine Congress in September 15, 1898, and where the Inauguration of the First Philippine Republic in January 23, 1899 was held.

2. Malolos Cathedral ( Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception)- The cathedral was built in 1580 and the Malolos Cathedral actually served as an Executive Palace during Aguinaldo’s Presidency.

3. Instituto Mujeres – The place is located in Sto Nino street just adjacent to Calle Pariancillo and it is the site where Rizal addressed his famous letter to the 21 women of Malolos who petitioned the Governor General Valeriano Weyler to have a night school for women on December 12, 1888.

4. Gregorio del Pilar’s Tomb – It is located at the front plaza of Bulacan Provincial Capitol and it contains the remains of the young general and has an equestrian statue of the hero of Tirad Pass.

5. The Kalayaan Tree – It is a hundred-year-old Siar tree, President Aguinaldo and other of his Officials holds some important meetings under this tree located in front of the Malolos Cathedral. So you can say that this tree knows a lot of secrets.

6. The Arcadio Ejercito Mansion – The mansion is located at the corner of the streets of Estrella and Pariancillo, The mansion was used as office of the First Philippine Republic’s Department of War.

7. Museo ng Bulacan, Hiyas ng Bulacan Museum Complex – The museum is located 500 m away from Barasoain Church that houses the works, artifacts, relics and writings of Francisco Balagtas, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Gregorio del Pilar, Mariano Ponce and other famous people of Bulacan. A good place to visit to learn more about our local heroes and a bit of history.

8. Barasoain Museum – This museum is located just across the hall of the Barasoain Convent and the museum is managed by the National Historical Institute. The place is open daily, 8am-5pm. Admission is free.

9. Adriano-Vasquez Mansion – The place is a beautiful old house that was once used to house Aguinaldo’s Gobierno Militar de la Plaza.

10. Casa Tribunal Malolos – The place was built in 1800s and it was used as the Original and First Municipal Hall of Malolos from 1859 to 1899 and was later converted into a jailhouse during the First Philippine Republic.

Malolos is such a historical city and a lot of important historical events took place in this city. These are just some of the few places of interest that you can see when you go to Malolos city.

Malolos, officially the City of Malolos, (Tagalog: Lungsod ng Malolos), or simply known as Malolos City, is a 3rd class city in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 252,074 people.

It is the capital city of the province of Bulacan as the seat of the provincial government.

The city is 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. It is one of the major suburbs conurbated to Metro Manila, situated in the southwestern part of Bulacan, in the Central Luzon Region (Region 3) in the island of Luzon and part of the Metro Luzon Urban Beltway Super Region.

Malolos was the site of the constitutional convention of 1898, known as the Malolos Convention, that led to the establishment of the First Philippine Republic, at the sanctuary of the Barasoain Church. The convent of the Malolos Cathedral served as the presidential palace at that time. Malolos gave birth to the first constitutional republic in Asia.
