| SAMSUNG GALAXY Z8 SERIES SETS NEW FOLDABLE PRE-ORDER RECORD

Samsung Electronics recorded its highest-ever foldable pre-order sales in Southeast Asia and Oceania following the launch of the Galaxy Z8 series.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra increased by nearly 60% compared with the Galaxy Z Fold7, according to Samsung.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 emerged as the region’s most popular model, accounting for almost six out of every 10 Galaxy Z8 devices ordered.

The response was equally strong in the Philippines, where the Galaxy Z Fold8 became Samsung’s best-selling foldable during a pre-order period. It accounted for nearly 60% of all Galaxy Z8 series orders in the country from July 22 to August 13.

At the height of the campaign, nearly one Galaxy Z8 series device was sold every minute in the Philippines.

The new lineup comprises the lightweight Galaxy Z Fold8, the productivity-focused Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the compact Galaxy Z Flip8. Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 as part of its expanding connected-device ecosystem.

The pre-order period concluded on August 13. The devices are now available through Samsung’s official website and participating authorized stores, subject to current availability and applicable offers.

| Moro entrepreneurs in BARMM strengthen digital skills with PLDT and Smart

More than 100 entrepreneurs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) gained practical digital skills through training sessions organized by PLDT and Smart Communications, Inc. in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT).

Participants learned how to build their brands, create engaging content, and promote their products through social media. PLDT Enterprise also introduced connectivity and digital solutions designed to help micro, small, and medium enterprises expand their market reach.

“We are thankful for our unwavering partnership with PLDT and Smart throughout the years. This collaboration has made a meaningful impact on MSMEs and the communities we serve,” said Snooky Gani, Division Chief of Enterprise and Trade Development at MTIT-BARMM.

Under the RAPID Growth Project, the PLDT Group and MTIT also conducted digital training for Bangsamoro coconut farmer organizations. Participants learned to create social media Reels and publication materials and use digital payment solutions such as Maya.

“Digital transformation should create opportunities not only for businesses in urban centers but also for MSMEs and farming communities,” said Judee Chaves, Mindanao Relations Head at PLDT and Smart.

The collaboration forms part of the PLDT Group’s advocacy, which aims to equip grassroots entrepreneurs with digital tools to strengthen their competitiveness, expand their reach, and participate more actively in the digital economy.

POWER AND PROGRESS ⚡ | Sarangani Gov. Ruel Pacquiao underscores the need for reliable, stable and affordable electricity to support investments, jobs and continued economic growth.

| GOV. RUEL PACQUIAO CALLS FOR RELIABLE, AFFORDABLE POWER AT SOCOTECO II ASSEMBLY

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Sarangani Gov. Rogelio "Ruel" D. Pacquiao called for stronger collaboration to ensure reliable, stable and affordable electricity as he addressed member-consumer-owners during the 43rd Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) of SOCOTECO II at the Apopong Gym in General Santos City on Saturday, July 25.

Pacquiao said a dependable power supply is crucial to sustaining Sarangani’s economic growth, attracting investments and creating jobs.

SARANGANI’S GROWING ECONOMY

Citing Philippine Statistics Authority data, the governor noted that Sarangani’s economy grew by 5.9% in 2024, higher than SOCCSKSARGEN’s 5.5% growth and the national rate of 5.7%. The province’s economy reached ₱52.66 billion.

“Investors choose locations where electricity is reliable, stable, and affordable,” Pacquiao said.

WHY RELIABLE POWER MATTERS

The governor pointed out that food processing facilities, agricultural cold storage, manufacturing plants, schools, tourism establishments and digital services all depend on uninterrupted electricity.

Power disruptions, he said, can lead to production delays, agricultural losses and interruptions in public and business services.

Pacquiao also stressed the importance of keeping electricity rates reasonable while strengthening infrastructure to withstand natural disasters and meet increasing demand.

CALL FOR STRONGER COLLABORATION

Pacquiao called for closer coordination among power generators, the transmission sector, distribution utilities, local government units and the national government in developing long-term solutions for the power sector.

“We must work together to identify practical solutions that will provide consumers with dependable electricity at a reasonable cost through transparency, efficiency, and responsible governance,” Pacquiao said.

The governor also reaffirmed the Sarangani Provincial Government’s support for additional power capacity and more resilient energy infrastructure.

SOCOTECO II’S MODERNIZATION CHALLENGE

Pacquiao’s remarks come as SOCOTECO II considers measures to rehabilitate and modernize its electricity distribution system amid growing demand across its franchise area.

Among these is the proposed Joint Venture Agreement with Ignite Power, which would bring private-sector capital into infrastructure projects involving aging distribution facilities, expansion of substation and feeder capacities, replacement of obsolete equipment and modernization of the distribution network.

THE PROPOSED IGNITE POWER JV

The proposed partnership covers SOCOTECO II’s service area, including General Santos City and Sarangani Province, and is among the major long-term options being considered to improve the reliability, resilience and efficiency of electricity distribution.

For SOCOTECO II’s member-consumer-owners, the discussions ultimately center on a critical question: how to secure a more reliable and resilient power system while keeping electricity affordable.
