July 31 | The Local Government Unit of General Santos City, through the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO), visited the Kante-en Hand Loom Weaving Artisan Association in Barangay Upper Labay, one of the existing local weaving associations in General Santos City, as part of its initiative to reach out and continue strengthening its support for local cooperatives, associations, and community-based enterprises.

During the visit, the CCDO learned more about the associationโ€™s weaving activities and discussed possible assistance through the Region XII DOST's Program, particularly in skills development, technology, and product enhancement.

Through continued coordination and linkages with partner government agencies, the CCDO remains committed to empowering local artisans, preserving traditional weaving, and strengthening their enterprises and market opportunities.

JULY 31 | The City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO) โ€“ LGU General Santos conducted an orientation for the Purok 11-B Senior Citizens Consumer Cooperative as part of the Koop Konekt Program, with CFTEMCO serving as its Big Brother Cooperative.

Today, the Local Government Unit of General Santos City through the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Katangawan Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (KCFAC) convened for a productive meeting to strengthen collaboration in enhancing the cooperative's locally produced soap and vinegar.

The discussion focused on the use of science, technology, and innovation to improve product quality, enhance production processes, and create greater economic opportunities for KCFAC and its members.

As a significant outcome of the meeting, DOST committed to providing technical assistance through its Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program, reinforcing its commitment to supporting community-based enterprises.

This partnership reflects a shared vision of empowering farming communities by adding value to local resources, strengthening cooperative enterprises, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Through collaboration and innovation, KCFAC is better positioned to improve its products, expand market opportunities, and contribute to a more resilient local economy.

๐ŸคKOOP KAAKBAY: Extending a Helping Hand to Calamity-Affected GenSan Families ๐Ÿค

โ€‹The General Santos City Cooperative Development Council (CCDC), in strong partnership with the Local Government Unit through the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO), and office of Councilor Dominador S. Lagare III, successfully conducted the Kooperatiba Kaisa sa mga Adhikain, Alay-Ayuda, Kaalaman at Bayanihan (Koop KAAKBAY) initiative last July 11, 2026.

โ€‹Driven by the true spirit of bayanihan, the council reached out to three selected barangays in the city to provide immediate relief and comfort to families recently affected by earthquake and fire incidents.

โ€‹Through the collective efforts of our local cooperatives, essential relief packsโ€”including grocery items packed in handy buckets (balde), temporary tents, and special treats and candies for the kidsโ€”were distributed to the following beneficiaries:

โ€ข โ€‹98 households from Purok Blala, Barangay San Jose (affected by the earthquake)
โ€ข โ€‹14 families from Purok Balantang, Barangay Tambler (affected by the earthquake)
โ€ข โ€‹14 families from Purok Lanoy, Barangay Calumpang (affected by fire)

In the wake of the recent earthquake crisis, the LGU GSC thru the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO) and the City Cooperative Development Council (CCDC) Executive Committee immediately convened an emergency meeting, to mobilize Koop Kaakbay, our unified cooperative disaster response and support program.

In times of uncertainty, the true cooperative spirit shines brightest. Through Koop Kaakbay, our local cooperatives are uniting their resources, hearts, and efforts to extend immediate assistance, relief, and a helping hand not only to affected cooperative members and families but also to the community.

We are down, but we are definitely not broken.

Together, through cooperation, we will rebuild, recover, and rise stronger than before.

Big steps are being taken toward stronger, more sustainable water management in our community as the Presidents of the 14 Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Associations (RWSAs) of Barangay Calumpang gathered for a consultative meeting.

Exploring their collective interest and intent whether to transition into individual water service cooperatives, be members of the existing water service cooperative or unite into single Water Service Cooperative in Brgy. Calumpang.

The leaders are already moving forward with drafting a formal Resolution of Intent and preparing for upcoming cooperative seminars (PMES).
