To be honest, I really can’t wrap my head around why some Filipinos are celebrating what is happening now—especially seeing Senator Bato dela Rosa allegedly assaulted and about to be brought before the ICC, stripped of basic due process and fair trial, just like what they did to PRRD.
Whether you supported them or not, whether you were against them or neutral—just tell me this: how exactly does this help us ordinary citizens? How is this fair to our country? I know there are legal arguments and technical loopholes, yes, but at the end of the day, if they can do this to him and to PRRD—men who served this nation with everything they had—does this make our lives better? Does this fix our problems? Because from where I stand, it feels like we’re not just tearing down our own… we’re letting them punish public service itself.
What honestly makes me sick is seeing people who used to scream “Duterte Forever” at the top of their lungs—people who claimed they would stand by him no matter what—suddenly acting like they never knew him. Now they’re laughing at VP Sara’s struggles, wishing for Sen. Bato’s downfall, and actually cheering because the man who led this nation for six years is sitting in The Hague. It’s like all the good things he did, all the sacrifices, all the results… suddenly mean nothing to them just because politics changed. That’s not principle. That’s just being fake.
No leader is perfect, I get that. But let’s stop pretending like anyone else even came close. FPRRD was truly in a league of his own when it came to running this country and getting things done. You can hate his style, hate his words, hate his approach—but you cannot deny the results. He didn’t just sit in the office and make speeches; he worked. He delivered. He did things that other leaders only promised for decades. And for millions of us, he was the only one who actually made us feel like the government was finally on our side.
âś… When COVID-19 struck and the whole world shut down, it was under his leadership that we navigated the crisis, protected our people, and kept our nation moving while others crumbled.
âś… When terror seized Marawi, it was his resolve and his trust in our brave soldiers that led to victory, peace, and the liberation of our land.
âś… His War on Drugs? From where I stand, and for millions of families like mine, it was a massive success. For the first time in decades, we felt safe walking our streets. For the first time, drug lords feared the government instead of controlling it. Crime dropped, and peace returned to neighborhoods that had been abandoned to chaos.
✅ It took a President from Mindanao—someone who understood the grassroots, someone the elite tried to overlook—to finally clean up and restore Manila Bay, turning it from a dumping ground into something beautiful we can all enjoy.
âś… He gave us the 8888 Hotline, a direct line where we, the people, could report lazy officials, corrupt workers, and slow government service. For the first time, the people had a way to hold public servants accountable.
And the lists goes on and I will not list every single achievement because history and results speak for themselves. But one thing is clear: he genuinely cared for the Filipino people. He did not just rule; he served.
So I ask again: Why are people happy he is facing this?
Is it simply because he was the rival of another candidate? Is it only because his daughter chose to align with the current administration? Because let’s be honest—we all know the truth. This hatred is not really about the alleged EJKs or human rights. That is just the excuse.
Most of this anger, this celebration, comes from a blind, personal desire to see Duterte and his allies suffer. Why? Because they were strong? Because they were unapologetic? Because they actually delivered results?
Let me ask you these hard questions:
âť“ Did he sell our country or our sovereignty to China? No. He stood his ground, balanced our foreign relations, and prioritized our national interest.
âť“ Did he steal our wealth or sell our gold reserves? No.
âť“ Was he the mastermind behind ghost projects and corruption? No. These problems existed long before him; he was actually the one who tried to expose and punish them.
âť“ Did he betray our OFWs, our modern-day heroes? Never. He fought for their rights, protected them abroad, and gave them the support they deserved.
âť“ Did he betray our soldiers and police? Never. He loved our uniformed personnel, gave them the highest pay and benefits in history, and treated them like family.
âť“ Did he abuse power to remove his own Vice President? No.
âť“ Did he allow foreign powers to dictate our laws or rule over our justice system? No. He always fought for Philippine sovereignty.
âť“ Did he let powerful nations bully us economically or politically? Never. He spoke to them as equals, not as servants.
Tell me honestly: Do you feel that Duterte ever betrayed you? Or betrayed our country?
He was not perfect. He had flaws, he was rough around the edges, and he spoke his mind. But show me another leader in our history who worked as hard, fought as fiercely, and delivered as much for the ordinary Filipino as he did.
This celebration we are seeing now? This joy over his troubles? This is not justice. This is pure politics. This is blind hate. This is envy of his strength and his popularity.
But here is the sad truth: when we cheer for the fall of a leader who actually stood up for the poor, for the provinces, for Mindanao, and for us… we are not winning anything. We are only hurting ourselves.
Because if we can bring down the one man who fought for us, who will fight for us next? 🇵đź‡
