Bride Dies before Wedding

BATANGAS CITY — A couple in this city failed to tie the knot when the bride-to-be died the night before their scheduled wedding on Wednesday, police said.

City police chief Supt. Carlos Barde said Ariel Cueto and Aime Gregorio were supposed to seal their 7-year relationship on Wednesday. Everything had been set — from the couple’s wedding clothes to souvenirs, invitations, and food for the reception, Barde said.

Barde said Aime’s daughter, Nadieta Gregorio, told police her mother fainted after she got home from her wedding practice. “Pagpasok sa loob ng bahay tumayo para kumain, nahihilo siya sa upuan, pagsubsob, nahimatay. Dinala namin sa ospital, pinump na lang, wala na,” she told police. “Sana asan ka man ngayon masaya ka, ‘di man naibigay sa atin ang basbas,” Cueto said.

Barde said members of the Gregorio said the bride-to-be had no known illnesses except fatigue, stress and excitement over their upcoming wedding the next morning.

According to psychologist Lucille Evangelista, couples who are about to be married normally feel the stress, excitement and fatigue. Evangelista told police it was possible that stress triggered an ailment that caused Gregorio’s death. PNA
