Kini gi-classify nga “Critically Endangered” nga mananap sa International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

Talagsaon ra gayud kining matang sa turtle makahimamat ug buyag dako na baya unta kining napalgan apan lagi subo lamang kay kini wala nay kinabuhi. Dako nga factor sa problema mao ang basura sa kadagatan nga nakita sa mga niadto pa (base sa mga reports bisag asa sa kalibutan) nga mao ang kalabinan hinungdan sa pagkakalas sa mga marine animals kay ang mga plastic sa dagat ilaha man nga makaon kay nagdahom sila nga kini pagkaon o di ba kaha sila matuok or masangit sa mga nylon o pisi nga mga wastes hinungdan nga subo makabsan gyud sa kinabuhi. Si Chelo i-display sa Museo aron mamahimong usa sa mga nawng nga pamalandungan alang sa pag edukar ug pagpakusog ug pagpadayun ug advocate sa conservation ug preservation of endangered species.
