In the age of viral content and 30-second takedowns, social media personalities hold enormous sway over public opinion. One post, one video, one careless review can make or break someone’s livelihood. That’s why this power must be exercised with responsibility—not just reach.
Case in point: Euleen Castro’s recent TikTok review of Coffeebreak. In a few seconds, she dismissed the café with “Walang masarap!” and threw in profanity like “p*ta,” with no real effort to explain or suggest improvement. It wasn’t a critique. It was a demolition disguised as content.
Let’s be clear: Honest reviews are essential. Consumers deserve the truth. But there’s a fine line between being truthful and being reckless. When you reduce a business to “walang masarap” without context, without depth, and without an ounce of constructive feedback, you're not helping anyone. You're just posturing for views—and at the cost of someone else's livelihood.
Businesses, like influencers, thrive on reputation. Euleen banks on hers; Coffeebreak does too. But unlike influencers, most local businesses don’t have millions of followers or brand deals to cushion a hit. They do not have the PR machinery to fight back. One irresponsible post can lead to cancellations, job losses, and even permanent closures. So before you hit “post,” ask yourself: Am I building discourse or burning someone’s house down?
Freedom of expression doesn’t excuse recklessness. If you have the voice, use it wisely. Say the truth—but say it with care. Say what needs to be said—but say it like you understand people worked hard to build what you’re tearing down.
Be honest, but don’t be careless.
