For our seventh Pride Feature, we celebrate a person who has shown that success is not only about building businesses, it is about building communities, creating opportunities, and opening doors for others.
Meet Mx. Buboy Basquinas, owner of Upeng Bar and Restaurant and Isaiah Events & Catering Services in Bacacay, Albay. Beyond being a successful entrepreneur, Buboy is a decade-long community organizer and one of the pioneering founders of Bacacay Pixie SAGA, whose commitment to advancing LGBTQIA+ rights has remained steadfast through the years.
Long before entrepreneurship became his profession, service had already become his purpose. Beginning his advocacy through Akbayan Partylist and later helping establish Bacacay Pixie SAGA, Buboy understood that meaningful change requires people who are willing to organize, speak up, and create spaces where everyone belongs.
The same values that shaped his advocacy became the foundation of his businesses.
For Buboy, entrepreneurship is more than earning a living, it is an opportunity to serve. Every customer welcomed, every event successfully delivered, every worker given an opportunity, and every dream turned into reality is a reminder that businesses can become instruments of dignity, empowerment, and hope.
His journey reminds us that LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs do more than create successful enterprises. They generate jobs, contribute to the local economy, support families, and demonstrate that authenticity and excellence can go hand in hand.
He hopes to see more LGBTQIA+ individuals pursue entrepreneurship, discover their passions, and create opportunities not only for themselves but also for others. For him, success becomes even more meaningful when it creates a positive impact beyond oneself.
