Do they look familiar? Commonly grown as hedges or boundary fences are also edible. These are Polyscias species, tropical, perennial shrubs, found in Asia and Pacific but are now cultivated around the world for their ornamental, culinary and medicinal values. They are used throughout Asia and pacific. The Walangur (Polyscias fruticosa, , Polyscias scuttellaria and Polyscias verticillata) are enjoyed by the East New Britons.

Did you know that your favourite Kuru Sako is not native to Papua New Guinea? Sako, commonly known around the world as choko or chayote, is native to Central America( Mexico through Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Columbian). They were taken to Europe by spanish explorers and from there introduced to Asia and Pacific. They are nutritional and enjoyed around the world. They come from the same family as pumpkins and cucumber.
