💕🎶 Psychedelic Furs were the post-punk band par excellence. With a mix of punk, new wave, rock and pop in equal parts, they were one of the many groups that built a new sound taking advantage of the numerous genres that emerged in the early 80s. The band was formed in 1977 in London with brothers Richard and Tim Butler. One of hundreds of punk bands that formed during that seminal year, they gained interest as record labels attempted to cash in on this booming music scene. With Duncan Kilburn on sax, Paul Wilson on drums and Roger Morris on guitar (Tim played bass), the band played throughout England under the name 'RKO' and then 'Radio'. Ultimately, they settled on 'The Psychedelic Furs' as a nod to the Velvet Underground song, "Venus in Furs." In 1979, Vince Ely replaced Wilson on drums and John Ashton joined on guitar. The six-piece band entered the studio with producer Steve Lillywhite to record their first album.💕🎶
