FairMail is a social enterprise on a mission to end child labor in Peru. We produce fair trade greet

FairMail is a social enterprise that sells fair trade greeting cards made with pictures taken by underprivileged teenage photographers from Peru. FairMail provides free photography classes to the photographers and sells their images through different channels. The photographers receive 60% of the profit from the sales of their pictures and they invest it in 3 funds: education, clothing, and house

supply. FairMail also provides a health care plan to the photographers and their direct family members as well as counseling and personal guidance to support their personal and professional growth. Our mission is to:

o Fight against child labor in Peru by empowering underprivileged teenagers through photography. o Provide for the education of the FairMail photographers and support them in their personal and professional growth to instill within them a sense of self-confidence and self-awareness so that they can grow into the adult they want and chose to be. o Raise awareness of the role of social enterprises and of the impact that they have in the communities where they operate. o Promote fair trade and be a compliant member of the WFTO by living up to its ten principles.

We feel completely helpless, still in disbelief.

Our souls are filled with pain and anger. All our love and deepest condolences go out to her mother, Laura, and her brothers during this devastating time.

Melany was a light in our lives. We will forever cherish her sweetness, her kindness, and that smile of hers that would brighten all our photo sessions.

It is immensely unfair that her life and all her dreams were snatched away at only 22 years old, and we deeply hope that justice will be served here on earth.

At FairMail, we will never forget the time we spent together.

Melany, you will remain in our hearts forever.

To be honest, we grappled with whether or not to speak out. In the end, we decided to share this story because we believe it's our duty, as a social enterprise, to provide an honest account of the reality our young photographers face every day.

Last Saturday, our dear Melany—who was a FairMail photographer until 2022—was the victim of a horrific attack at the real estate office where she worked. She is currently in intensive care with third-degree burns covering 80% of her body. Her condition is critical but stable, and doctors are currently evaluating a transfer to Lima so she can receive specialized care.

Words cannot express our outrage. Melany is an innocent victim of a system of ingrained corruption that is bringing the country to its knees.

Our hearts and full solidarity go out to her family. They have launched a fundraising campaign to cover her medical expenses; if you would like to contribute or help in any way, please send us a private message.
Este es el tipo de noticias que nunca quisiéramos tener que dar.

A decir verdad, dudamos mucho sobre si debíamos compartirlo o no. Finalmente, decidimos hacerlo porque creemos que es nuestro deber mostrar la cruda realidad que enfrentan nuestros jóvenes fotógrafos.

El sábado pasado, nuestra querida Melany, quien fue fotógrafa de FairMail hasta el 2022, fue víctima de un terrible atentado en la oficina inmobiliaria donde trabajaba. Actualmente se encuentra en cuidados intensivos con quemaduras de tercer grado en el 80% de su cuerpo. Su estado es crítico pero estable, y los médicos están evaluando su traslado a Lima para que pueda recibir una mejor atención especializada.

No hay palabras para expresar nuestra indignación. Melany es una víctima inocente de un sistema de corrupción sistemática que está desangrando al país.

Expresamos toda nuestra cercanía y solidaridad con su familia. Ellos han iniciado una colecta para cubrir los gastos médicos; si desean colaborar, pueden ponerse en contacto con nosotros por mensaje privado.

✨ ¡El sábado pasado tuvimos una jornada increíble en FairMail! ✨

La comunicadora social Sandy Hernández .samher dirigió la primera parte del taller de fotografía socio-documental, invitando a nuestros jóvenes fotógrafos a reflexionar sobre qué significa “ver con propósito” y cómo la fotografía puede convertirse en un verdadero agente de cambio dentro de nuestras comunidades.

Durante la mañana, los chicos trabajaron en equipo en un proyecto común para fortalecer el espíritu de grupo y la colaboración. Y por la tarde salieron a las calles con sus cámaras para observar la realidad que los rodea y descubrir nuevas oportunidades de transformación a través de sus imágenes.

Ahora no podemos esperar para la segunda parte del taller y para ver las fotos que han creado los chicos durante esta experiencia tan inspiradora. 🤩

📸 🧑‍⚕️Last Saturday, FairMail and HOP teamed up to host a free health campaign event at FairMail's office in El Tablazo, Huanchaco for the local community.

A big shoutout to the dedicated staff and volunteers from HOP who provided essential health services including:

✅ Blood pressure measurement
✅ Blood tests (hemoglobin, glucose, and cholesterol)
✅ Weight and size check
✅ Teeth check
✅ General medical consulting

We were thrilled to see over 50 community members benefit from these services.

For FairMail, this event was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our ties with the local community, showcase our work, and highlight our projects.
