Whanganui, we are absolutely blown away by the talent, the generosity and the immaculate vibe of our community! 🍉✨🍉✨🍉

We are still finalising the tally but at this stage it’s looking like together we raised slightly over $6,000 — which means a $3,000 donation for each of our two chosen charities: Medical Aid for Palestine () and the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund ().

🫶 A special thank you to the Whanganui Musicians Club (especially Denis), all the volunteers, our amazing acts (including last minute ones!), Tyme () for her delicious focaccia, and everyone who bought a ticket or made a donation!

While we’re still flying high, the mahi is ongoing — remember to stay up to date with Whanganui Palestinian Solidarity Group (), who are dedicated to promoting justice, freedom, equality and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Castlecliff Lights are a genre-bending rollercoaster of psychedelic, ethereal, durge and indie rock. Sometimes it takes the form of sweet, haunting reverb filled vocals and at others it culminates in a jarring all-encompassing wall of noise.

And we reckon they’re gonna rock your little socks off!

ALPHABETHEAD finds himself lost in the cosmos of musical genres, adrift somewhere between the constellations of Hip Hop, Experimental Rock and Electronic Dance Music.

As a teenager he won the NZ DMC DJ Championship and this sent him gigging around the globe. Over the next twenty years he’d go on to produce solo music as Alphabethead, five records as one third of cult genre-shredders All Seeing Hand and two albums with the Hip Hop duo Bad Taste. His singular approach to playing the turntable as a musical instrument has led to tours through Aotearoa, Australia, UK and China and performances at festivals like WOMAD, Splore, Laneway and Camp A Low Hum.

Now signed to Sunreturn, Alphabethead is celebrating the release of “My Name Is David”, his debut album of propulsive electronica. David’s set for the evening will lean into his new, synthesis-driven, blissful, dark and dance-able direction...

Naram is an Whanganui-based reggae composer/producer with a longstanding dedication to the darker, synth-driven side of 80s digital dancehall and rub-a-dub.

With three full length LPs and dozens of vinyl releases to his name, he has worked with artists including Linval Thompson, Cutty Ranks, Midnight Riders, Tippa Lee, King Kong and Ranking Ann. He continues to release critically acclaimed music on labels across the world as well as on his own Red Robin imprint.

Onstage, he performs a live dub mix using an analogue desk and hardware effects to push his riddims into deep, murky territory – heavy bass, spooky synths and an uncompromising DIY approach.

Many of us are at a loss as to what we can say or do to make a tangible difference to the Palestinian people impacted by the ongoing genocide in Gaza. That’s why we wanted to create A Night for Palestine - a way for our community to come together in solidarity and enjoy some amazing local music, all while making a real difference. November 29 is also the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

With your generosity, we’re hoping to raise an ambitious $10,000! All donations will be split between our two chosen charities: The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

We are offering tickets for A Night for Palestine on a sliding scale, starting from $25, with the option to add an extra donation if you wish. Or you can simply donate without buying a ticket.

Featuring performances by: Shady Lady, Naram, Castlecliff Lights, Space Trash, and Alphabethead.

ABOUT OUR CHOSEN CHARITIES

Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), founded in 1991 by concerned humanitarians in the USA, provides free medical care to thousands of injured and ill children yearly who lack local access to care within the local health care system. Over the years, they've sent over 2,000 affected children abroad for free medical care, sent thousands of international doctors and nurses to provide tens of thousands of children free medical care in local hospitals, and provided tens of thousands of children humanitarian aid and support they otherwise would not get.

Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) provides immediate medical aid to those in need at times of crisis, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. MAP are also committed to speaking out against injustices that prevent Palestinians from fully enjoying their rights to health and dignity, and campaign to ensure the voices of Palestinians impacted by occupation, displacement and conflict are heard at the highest levels.
