Do you know why we toot through the Mt Victoria tunnel?? If not a quick history lesson. Phillis Symons was pregnant and 17 when she was buried alive by her 29 year old partner George Coats(he was found guilty and hanged for it) in the construction site of the MtVic tunnel in 1911. The rumour has always been the ghost of her is still present so we toot to either scare her away or maybe just to say hi depending on how you view it.

For some reason she has always been buried in an unmarked grave in Karori cemetery but on Saturday a family member, after some difficulty has finally been able to get a plaque with her name on it. And we were honoured to make a pink wreath (Phillis’ favourite colour) to go alongside the new plaque.
