*State of Emergency for Northland*

A State of Emergency has been declared for all of Northland. This includes both the Far North, Kaipara and Whangārei. An Emergency Operations Centre has been activated for the Far North at our council headquarters in Kaikohe.

Deputy Mayor Kelly Stratford as Chair of our Civil Defence Northland Commitee signed the declaration this afternoon which will give emergency powers to ensure people are kept safe.

Safety messaging and guidance is still the same for now. Please ensure that you report local flooding related issues, stay up to date with roading closures and service disruptions with our local councils:
Far North District Council
Kaipara District Council
Whangarei District Council
Northland Regional Council

Interregional travel is affected and diversions are still in place. Please limit personal travel. See Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency - Northland for updates. Heavy vehicles must use SH12/14 to reach Whangārei and the Far North.

MetService New Zealand have forecast strong winds and heavy rain throughout the afternoon and this evening.

I know Northlanders are pretty resilient when it comes to wet weather, but please don't take risks, and check out the website below to be prepared:

We have made the decision to close for the day and will reassess the situation again tomorrow⚠️

Our campers are all safe and those who left yesterday have made their next destinations safely. Those coming in please stay dry in our communal dining area where you can watch netflix, play table tennis, make a hot coffee and charge devices🏕🚎

Please check on your neighbours and look after one another during this time. Stay indoors if you can help it. Restrict travel and please check for weather updates at www.metservice.com. It is meant to get rough from midday onward☔️

Call 09 4067 298 if you have any enquiries📞

29/01/2023

Today we are experiencing flooding💧

Our drains are clear and we have a good system now in place which helps the water receed well. Still, it is very wet and can be uncomfortable for those camping in tents or vehicles🏕🚎

Our dining area is open and the jug is hot☕️ But please keep the french folding doors closed along the bbq area and use the front door or door closest to the toilets. Please move into this area to stay dry. You can dry your tents and gear in here too. We will move you into cabins. Our existing campers take priority here as they are already saturated and are in immediate need🙏

Please keep checking for road closures and if it looks unsafe to drive through - don't do it⚠️

We have blocked our booking system for the day and can not accept new bookings at this time to allow our site to cope with the added pressure and to ensure health and safety is at the forefront during this rough weather. All staff are at home with only one onsite. We will reopen it in 48 hours.

Please call our office on 09 4067 298 if you require assistance✔️

Thanks so much to our bosses for decking our team out in Stoney Creek NZ wet weather gear💪 Even our Crystal got decked out.

We've all been putting them to use, rubbish duties, septic system, pool duties...and with this storm about to arrive, we thought we'd head up to the middens and finish the bollards - thanks Dommy him and Kordal worked all day getting this organised, I only came in at the end!👌

The wind is hectic with rain to come🌬

Finalllyyyyy caught a fish to ✔️ that off my summer list😅 Was getting such itchy feet watching all the ika being pulled in over Christmas and New Years🤪

Have been buying buying buying bait...and returned to the basics this morning to use freshly picked tuatua instead...something Dad (our maintenance man Bim) always swears by and taught us as kids, then...🐟💥

Two got off....but that's what they allllll say😅

Will go again and hopefully put some ika on the table for our beloved cousins tangihanga🕊

No cars stuck today in the ramp to tow out...phew🧜‍♀️

We are taking this week to undergo maintenance and thorough cleans on all of our cabins. This ensures we can tend to any repairs, replace, refresh and keep our accomodation up to the best possible standard🏕

We also have three more to refurbish. We would like to let you know that there is no cabin availability this week until Friday so we can get started asap🐚

Current bookings remain in place. We will work around them, but our system will not accept new bookings via our website as we need to use this down time right away🙏

Thank you for your understanding🌊

Things are picking up and we'd like to remind you of a few things to keep in mind whilst staying with us. These things help us create a safe, enjoyable and comfortable stay for all🌲🐚🌊

🔸 Pool is open from 9am - 9pm

️🔹️ Office is open from 9am - 6pm

🔸️ Please please please report blocked toilets! Do not ignore or just leave. We need to act on this ASAP before disaster strikes.

🔹️ Our waste management truck is visiting our site tomorrow to empty our large blue skips bins. Please keep all driveways clear and children away from the driveways to these bins please.

🔸 Motorbikes, once at full capacity on Friday to Monday, need to be walked into our site and out to the end of the driveway to ensure safety for all.

🔹 Please keep speed below 4km at all times.

️️🔸️ Hot chips, coffee, ice blocks and cold drinks are for sale between 12noon to 2pm daily at the front of our building.

🔹️ Pre-order your NEW YEARS EVE kai (hangi and roast spit with pork, chicken and beef plus veges and salads) at the front shop or reception. $20 per adult and $10 per child. These are pre-packed and collected at our shop from 2pm.

🔸️ We have had some unexpected wild weather over the past two days, please know that you can take cover in our dining area during the night should it get wild. You can charge your devices in this building, play table tennis, watch Netflix or Freeview.

🔹️ We sell tent pegs but do not have any caravan leads, these can be purchased at Mitre 10 Kaitaia.

🔸️ Our water safety certificates are displayed in the front office foyer which means that our water is safe to drink when collected at every tap within our site. Our pool is crystal clear and water tested bore water, our main building has a 22,000 tank with bore water supply and our inground tanks are run through our aquafilter water filtration system, also super safe to collect and drink.

🔹️ Dump station is clearly signposted, please do not collect drinking water from this area.

🔸️Do not park on the ramp down to the beach at any time.

🔹️ Do not drive on the beach in 2WD vehicles.

🔸️ Please use our recycling bins and large blue bins, bring your litter from the beach here to dispose of.

🔹 A black ford ranger does a daily patrol to ensure safety and wellbeing throughout our site. The awesome Vince and Annie from the Ngāi Takoto Manaaki team are checking in and also delivered carrots and potatoes today and yesterday to sites and cabins. These vegetables were grown on the Ngāi Takoto Rākau Ora orchard. A big mihi to you both and to Rākau Ora. You will also see a white double cab, flat deck ute doing a daily patrol too. Please make sure you say Kia ora to the Ngāi Takoto Taiao team's Joseph, Carlos and Jahrome who are monitoring our sites and keeping our landscapes prestine.

️🔸️ The laundry is self-service and takes $1 and $2 coins. It costs $4 per load (wash or dry).

🔹️ Showers are free (we deactivated the shower tokens) and have accounted for water usage in peak season rates currently in place. Instructions are on the wall in the bathrooms. Please remember that our lights in the bathrooms are also power saving and time off, so press the light button every time you walk in.

🔸️We are certified sustainable tourism operators and have a number of practices in place to help our manuhiri holiday whilst leaving the least amount of impact on our taiao (natural environment) as possible. You will see these flyers in your cabin and in our office. A couple of these actions include saving your food waste in the allocated food waste bins to feed local poaka instead of placing in rubbish bins. Recycle well, sort your rubbish and dry your towels as much as possible. Our toiletries also have a paper bag so you can take home any half used toiletries which are provided by Forest & Bird in biodegradable packaging. Please bring your kai in reusable containers or take a free jar from our office.

🔸️ Please give away fish frames and heads or place in our fileting station bins so that nothing goes to waste. Frames and heads can be smoked or boiled- delicious! And if placed in our bins we use in our compost.

🔹️ Be safe, enjoy the gorgeous sunsets, respect our taiao🌊🌲and have a blessed festive season x

Kia ora e te whānau...when you are driving up Te Oneroa a Tōhē please refrain from driving over culturally significant sites that look like these please. They are called middens and in simple text..are historical Māori kitchens.

You will find sea shells, artifacts and sometimes bones (koiwi) in them. When you drive over them you disrespect these sites, the whānau and iwi where these are located and damage an entire library of information.

This one is located in Hukatere which is 17km north of where we are located and spikes will now be put infront of them to preserve these areas. Our fibreglass pegs have already been removed. We are monitoring this site daily.

Kia ora.

Good summer fun FT good ol' Watties sauce🍅

A couple of friendly reminders to help us ensure timely cleaning and room prep in between bookings, plus a comfortable stay🙏

🌊 Please do not check in any earlier than the check-in time of 2pm. This ensures we are allowed the required amount of time to clean our cabins to top standard in between guests. We will not be allowing early check-ins over summer.

🌊 Please check-out by 10am. This also allows us the required amount of time to clean in between guests to top standard every time.

🌊 Our laundromat is self-service which takes $1 and $2 coins. We have supply of coins on site, however, you can bring your own coins and washing powder to operate the machines without waiting in line at the office for coins.

🌊 We have dedicated pool and recycling/rubbish staff this Sumner. Please ensure your tamariki under 13 are supervised, otherwise they will be asked to leave until someone over 14 is monitoring them.

🌊 Please ensure the correct recycling bins are used and if you have excess rubbish, please take it away. Our large bins are emptied on Northland Wastes schedule. You will be chased if you leave your rubbish in bags next to the bin😅 not lying though...🙋‍♀️

🌊 Speed below 5km AT ALL TIMES.

🌊 Do NOT drive on the beach if you don't have a 4WD vehicle. We can not leave the site during our busy period to tow people all day. Someone will, but possibly at a charge. Park up and walk. Leave your vehicles here.
