Something exciting comes our way... 🐦

As autumn closes in, the Kuaka (Bar-tailed Godwits) take flight to begin their long migration from New Zealand to Alaska, striving to live out their life cycle to its fullest.

The success of this mission relies on gritty determination and their trust in some kind of ‘inner map’ that guides them to their ‘treasure’ – the northern breeding grounds that assure them of continued life.

This process is nothing short of a miracle and watching them take to the sky in awe is Jack-the-Everyman! As he sets out on a journey of his own to seek his ‘treasure’, he looks up to the sky and makes a quiet wish that he will be able to find his own wings.

Birdlife Productions brings this stunning show to us on Saturday October 12th.

Tickets are coming very soon, so book this one into your diaries 🦅

Te Tupua – The Goblin is a solo play written and performed by John G Davies.

This impressive one-man show has been touring around New Zealand to sold out shows across both the North and South Island. After a packed show in Whitianga, a theatre reporter from the US commented that "As a frequent visitor to NZ I have been searching for the 'essence' of this country, and tonight I found it—an extraordinary play, a remarkable performance."

John Davies uses his skill, 3 props, and his extensive theatre experience to bring alive 9 characters in both Te Reo Māori and English.

Experience a visit from a ghost as history comes to life! Te Tupua–The Goblin tells the tale of a disenfranchised child, a shipwrecked sailor, a slave, an outcast.

A Scottish lad of 10 is driven into slavery aboard His Majesty’s ships, circa 1800. After 15 years at sea, he is cast onto the shoreline of Aotearoa. The fight for survival begins.

Early 19th century in Aotearoa was a dynamic time. This play is drawn from those histories and the central character is an amalgam of the experiences of some of those who lived here at that time.

The author and performer, John Davies, celebrates 50 years as a theatre practitioner. John studied the art of acting at Toi Whakaari- The New Zealand Drama School. Following his training he went on to perform for 10 years with Red Mole Enterprises in New Zealand, Mexico, the U.S.A. and England. John has directed
several opera productions including New Zealand Opera’s Ihitai A’vei’a – Star Navigator and Gianni Schicchi at the University of Waikato.

This play is suitable for ages 10 and up. Davies is performing two shows, both with a Q&A afterwards.

The sessions are on Thursday, 6th of June at 7:30pm and Saturday, 8th of June at 2:00pm. Tickets are $20 purchased online, and $25 on the door.
