I’ve been a little quiet on here… as last week our world got a little smaller 💔
We had to say goodbye to our darling 10 year old Labrador, Leda, who we adopted over four years ago.
She collapsed suddenly earlier in the week, and after running some tests at the vets it became clear her time with us had come to an end.
Carrying our boys through the grief process has been an eye-opening experience, listening to their thoughts and insights at 7, nearly 8 years of age.
One expressed many stages of grief all within the first half an hour including anger and bargaining, willing to give up his most prized Lego toy if he could just have one more day with his “Best Girl”.
The other, after quiet introspection, announced “I just don’t know how I’m going to function anymore Mum”. He then placed her collar around one of his teddy bears, and has kept it nearby since.
I can’t take away their grief or their pain, but I can help them feel emotionally safe as they explore all of the feelings and thoughts that come with it.
This is what we call “Holding space”, allowing them to figure it out, and telling them that one day it won’t hurt so much but today is not that day 🥺
Rest peacefully our darling Ledie-girl x
A huge thank you to Grace and the team at who were incredibly helpful and empathetic. We so appreciate everything you did for our girl 🫶
