Performing since 1936, it is one of the oldest continuously operating drama groups within Aotearoa New Zealand and one of a few societies to have its own purpose-built theatre; constructed in 1954, the theatre has since become a familiar part of the local Tauranga community.

Aspiring actors and directors will always be welcomed and mentored or if your focus is more aligned to creativity with your hands then the theatre offers many challenges in the set construction, properties, wardrobe, technical, and front of house roles - willing helpers are always welcome. The theatre is available to hire for stage productions, events, meetings and conferences.

We are absolutely thrilled to host "Dargaville Little Theatre" and their musical "Out of Mind" on June 8th 2pm (one showing only).

Written, composed, choreographed, directed and performed by Dargaville locals, the show has been selected to represent New Zealand at the International Theatre Festival, Mondial du Theatre, in Monaco in August 2025.

"Out of Mind" is a one-act musical depicting treatment in Tokanui Mental Hospital in the 1950s. It follows the stories of 7 women whose lives are affected by Tokanui, including a nurse employed there, the mother of a patient, and patients themselves. The musical explores how the women's experiences were markedly different in relation to their socio-economic background and the poor reasons some women were admitted to Tokonui in the first place. Whilst not based on any one account, the characters of Out of Mind have been based on real accounts of life at Tokanui.
