Now it’s been a week or so since THE big announcement of Handmaid closing now (😭), I’ve opened a Trade Me page called Handmaid_Sales to sell off our inventory.

I’ve had load of inquiries for specific items - and many of you want the same things! So I thought a Trade Me listing for each would be the best way to sort this out.

Please note a number of our items are still booked for events coming up and into early March so some items you’ll need to be patient for!

Save Handmaid_Sales on Trade Me as a favourite seller so you can notifications of all listings as they go live.

If you’re after a specific item and need it by a particular date, let me know and I’ll try to list it in good time for you (if there are no bookings for it).

We have a large inventory so it’s going to take a while with the juggle of everything else going on but I’ll try to get up a few things each day since the wedding season is coming up!

So this is a BIG SAD NEWS day but Handmaid is closing down. It's sad because Handmaid has been built with such love and care over the years and I am sad to see it won't be a part of the incredible events industry anymore. But it isn't all sad! We sold part of our business, the Sadie Swoon caravan bar branch, to an incredible new couple who are continuing her legacy in the Wellington region. Handmaid (the hire and styling side of the business) has been for sale but it hasn't sold in this tough economic environment. However, I'm proud of the journey of the business that I began when my children were preschoolers and the business has grown with them. Now with my children getting older, I felt it was time for me to return to my former career. I was a lawyer for many years before building Handmaid around my babies and have now been offered a fantastic opportunity to use those skills in a management job. I thought of trying to do both Handmaid and the new job but it isn't going to be possible! So it's all bittersweet to be shutting our doors even though I'm excited to jump into my new role!
For now, we will be honouring all our bookings in the system but will not be taking any more bookings. With regard to our inventory, we will eventually be selling these off but some we will need to hold onto for a while as they have bookings coming up. We'll let you know via our socials when things are being sold!Thank you to all our AMAZING industry friends, clients and staff - past and present.

We loved returning to the best kept wedding venue secret of Ngā Manu for Jamie and Kieran’s wedding! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jamie and Kieran wanted a ‘chilled out’ wedding and completely it pulled off! It had all the green, serene, natural vibes of a backyard wedding but had the glam too!

They had the awesome ‘backyard’ wedding specialists bring the vibe - with for the drinks, for the shelter, for the kai, for the dancing and games and some seating by !

Cool story. I helped style this groom’s mother’s wedding a couple of years ago. I love that when this whānau needed some celebration assistance again, that they came to me again!
This groom hired the same table (our gorgeous barley twist cake table) as a signing table that his mother used, thus linking their two celebrations. ❤️

This gorgeous couple's wedding featured on Together Journal and is our kind of wedding. The day reflected Shannon + Alex - their love for the ocean, vintage vibes and did away with the traditions that didn't suit them. Love that they planned their day by marching to their own (Batucada) drum. Congratulations again Team!
