Felted Flowers

One of my loves is to source out the local fresh flower farms or markets while I’m on holiday. I’ve done this all around the world on our travels over the years. It’s such a great way to get amongst a bit of floristry while I’m away. Such fun!
This past Dec/Jan holiday I did the same. We spent the first week of our holiday in stunning Arrowtown. Oh my! There, right in lupin season, growing wildly along the roadsides and banks, pretty much everywhere. I loved it!
So, on visiting a local Sunday market in the park, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the felted flowers that Little Lammies had on her stall, along with a few other flowers. No, these are not fresh flowers - my usual jam - but I love them. Felted crafts have become real popular, and I just thought it’d be fun to bring a bunch load home and share my holiday with you, so you can find them on my website shop as part of the gift range I offer. There are available, lupins, flowering Manuka, pohutukawa, and kowhai.

This gorgeous rose is blooming in my garden right now. After seeing it in a garden centre last year, I had to buy it. It almost perfectly bears my business namesake, its name being ‘Wild Eve’.

I am Wild About Eve.

I have a SMALL florist business, in that it’s just me. But I have a BIG passion for creating with flowers!

For me, it’s about designing bouquets and unique florals for people to make special connections and beautiful moments.

Always when delivering flowers, that first beautiful moment’s reaction is delight. Then, of course the second is the connection question, “who are these from?”

Knowing the message behind the flowers means I get to design thoughtfully - e.g., “oh cool these are for a birthday” or “how lovely, it’s a celebration of years together”, or “I wonder how these people are doing, grieving their lost loved one?”

Together, it’s a partnership where we are “creating special connections and beautiful moments through thoughtful florals”.

Just been loving play dates with the flowers I pressed over the previous summer season. These are a few of the Wild About Eve Pressed Flower wall hangings I have made - that feel ing of special girlhood days long past.

We have a young friend from Japan. He often stops by and looks at what’s going on in my shop, and taking photos of the beautiful flowers I may have in stock that day. Yesterday he was looking at these wall hangings as I was working on them. I told him the history of this art originated with the Samurai in Japan and is called, Oshibana. He speaks great English but is still figuring some things out. I love the way he responded by translating this word, by very firmly placing one hand on his forearm, and said “hard push”, and then “bana - flowers”. Exactly! This art is the pushing hard on flowers to press them while they dry, becoming a forever ‘held in time’ piece of nature’s beauty. 💜💜

This is me!
The face and personality that is Wild About Eve.

Often if I’m wandering through a website, I want to know “who made this beautiful stuff?” Somehow the face is an important revelation seen in the created pieces. You see in the design the personality of the designer, and that makes each piece personal, unique, and individual. Sometimes, when I see who is behind the designs, I might say “of course!”, other times, “well, that’s a pleasant surprise”. But I like to know their face.

So, just so you know, this is me!

I love popping a little wild into my designs. If it has structure, or a set form, I feel the need to set it off or set it apart with something that strays wildly and rebelliously. I love texture and curls, I love asymmetrical and open designs. This is all part of my design personality.

I wonder if your response is, “of course!” or “well, that’s a surprise”? 😌
