It’s no secret, I love kids. In fact, it was the basis for my application to become a celebrant.

And I also had three-in-three-years so clearly I enjoy kids (or I’m just insane 😂)

Getting to share in wedding days with kids? The dream.

And getting to follow your lives after the wedding (read: stalk on the ‘gram) and see new babies born and kids growing bigger? Obsessed.

So contrary to what I was told when I was looking for a celebrant for my own wedding, there IS a place for kids at weddings.

I’ll happily hold them 🥰

Let’s have a kōrero about readings in your wedding ceremony:

Do you need one?

No.

Does it have to be serious/traditional?

I fear you already know my answer to this one, but no.

Who should do it?

Whomever you choose (a good choice is someone who loves public speaking, or who you want involved in your ceremony)

Can a reading be a surprise?

Um, of course?! I’ve had a surprise for the couple, a surprise for the guests, a surprise when the two people doing readings inadvertently chose the same one (!) and I’ve also had it be a surprise for the person doing the reading (think, hidden reading under a seat)

Look, the thick and thin of it is, if there’s a reading you love (think: movies, books, song lyrics, poems, Instagram trending audio …), or someone you’d love to include, then absolutely add a reading to your ceremony.

If not, then don’t.

Simple.

But what if I told you … you can get married here again?!

After severe river bank erosion back in April 2025, the decision was made to close the Ho**er Valley track (at the base of Aoraki Mt Cook) at the second swing bridge indefinitely while they did essential repairs.

Well hey, it’s not indefinite anymore because on July 28, 2026 at 3:00pm the full track will be opening once again, featuring a brand new 189m suspension bridge 🤗

I can’t wait to get to walk this amazing track once more ~ I’ve been to some really epic locations around Aotearoa but when I came here for the first time, it literally took my breath away. In fact, I cried a little (and not just because it’s a 3-4 hour return walk …).

So the question is ~ would you get married here?

I’ve had the awesome pleasure throughout my celebrant career of getting to visit some of New Zealand’s most luxurious and remote lodges, and the one that I’ll always remember is this one: Morgan and Izaak, at The Lindis ~ nestled away in the hills of the Lindis Pass and entirely invisible to the outside world, the ideal backdrop for an intimate elopement between two people who’ve built their careers around space exploration 🤍

They found somewhere they loved and they built their wedding weekend around it, with their favourite people right there with them.

Sounds pretty ideal to me 🥰

When Sinéad and Sean asked me to marry them at Weddings by Mudbrick on Waiheke Island, I absolutely jumped at the chance. And I have zero regrets (what’s a number that’s less than zero?!) because the ceremony + the couple + the location + family and friends + the laughter + the fun + did I mention the couple?!

Obsessed. 10/10 will marry Sinéad and Sean a million times over 😘

Today of the first day of winter and I’m a winter baby through and through, so here are some reasons why I love a winter wedding ❄️

❄️ You get to embrace the cold and dress up cosy and warm. Think: delicious wool coats and furs, scarves and gloves … and a couple of cheeky hand warmers in your pockets

❄️ Sitting by a warm fire or in a hot tub after your wedding? Bliss.

❄️ Mulled wine and hot chocolates? Yes, please!

❄️ Epic views and a crisp, different kind of air around you

❄️ Getting to celebrate your wedding anniversary every year in the middle of the year ~ if you wanna be warm, just head to the northern hemisphere!

❄️ Hugging and embracing throughout your ceremony, keeping each other warm ~ any excuse for a cuddle, amiright?
