Happy 10th Anniversary to Mountain Weddings + our amazing first couple, Siobhan and Andrew! 😍

4th January 2016 marked our first wedding under our Mountain Weddings brand. Siobhan and Andrew celebrated their wedding at The Ledge on Cecil Peak on a very hot, summer’s evening.

I had already been shooting many helicopter weddings via the original brand - Williams Photography.

After shooting a few of these amazing elopements, I realised this was where my heart was. A better balance of family time and easier on the body.

In April/May 2015, shortly before my first child was born, I setup the new website www.mountainweddings.nz and my good friend Katie, put together a logo with similar design cues to the existing Williams Photography logo that she had created in 2010. Katie and her husband celebrated their own Mountain Weddings experience in 2017, and their hero Lake Erskine photo featured on our brochure for a number of years. Thank you, Katie! You’ve been a great friend for almost 20 years! �

Like my recent post, from celebrating 20 years shooting weddings, I just want to show my gratitude to the many wonderful couples I’ve had the pleasure in being a part of your day. Thanks also to the many wonderful vendors (friends!) that have helped Mountain Weddings along the way. Cheers Pilot Kurt, and Heliworks for being with us since day 1!

In 2019, Steph also joined the team as co-owner and lead wedding planner. Thank you for freeing up more time for me, haha! 😂 During the tricky covid era of 2020-2022, Steph joined me on most weddings and I trained her up in wedding photography, after realising she has an excellent eye for details. In 2025, she shot 25 of our 150+ elopements.

In addition to Steph shooting, we’ve also had some wonderful photographers working for us over the past 10 years, so thank you to everyone who contributed - Morgan-Lee, Ashton, Rosa, Chris, Nat & Melissa. I’ve usually checked through every single gallery that goes out to our couples and I’m always in awe of the work our team have captured.

We’ve also had Anaïs working for us for the past 3 years in her wedding planner role. She’s often our first point of contact, working on putting all the magic together. She’s also an avid photographer herself, capturing beautiful nature and landscapes, so we’ve joked that one day she may just shoot a wedding.

Thank you finally to Siobhan and Andrew, for finding our website and taking the steps to trust us to plan and shoot your wedding. You two are legends, and Andrew did so well, despite walking around in crutches on the day ;)

I’m feeling the next 10 years will look a little different (basically, I’m getting old and I can’t sustain the number of elopements I do, so book in quick, before I’m retired). We’re almost fully booked for 2026, with a few limited spots available in the second half of the year.

Finally, the Bassils! ❤️ A big congratulations to Sarah and Alex for getting married TODAY!!!

We had an incredible afternoon flying around the mountains, starting with their lakeside ceremony at the beautiful Lochnagar, a crisp snow landing looking back at Tyndall Glacier, enjoy breath-taking vistas and a picnic at Coromandel Peak and finally climbing epic rocks in the afternoon sun surrounded by mountains at Vanguard Peak. Talk about an adventure! 🙌

It was a blast to spend the day with you both and we hope you have the best honeymoon!!! Enjoy being married!!! 😄🫶🥂🏔️🚁💍

This August is throwing a few extra curve balls our way, with unsettled weather and challenging forecasts usually reserved for spring 💛 Luckily, we have a team of brilliant pilots behind us combined with understanding and passionate suppliers who help us bend over backwards to pull things off. Sometimes this means rescheduling plans or compromising on locations in an effort to work with what Mother Nature has on offer 🏔️⚡️🌦️ These kinds of conditions call for us to lean in to the fundamentals of what it’s all about - getting married to your best friend, taking on the world together, and having fun in the wilderness 😍

Here’s Morven and Rory doing just that, on a freakishly windy day that saw us traverse Lochnagar and the Rees Valley while laughing in the wind and holding each other tight to keep warm 😍 Although we can’t change the weather for you and don’t always have a crystal ball, we are here to help and will always do our best to bring good vibes, offer experienced advice and capture whatever moody magic there is! ☃️

Oooh sweet niblets! Throwback to these gorgeous humans and their winter adventure. Adam and Kahn were the “ultimate wedding guests” for 10 years until it was finally their turn and (if we can say so ourselves), they made the best decision to prioritise the things we that they love and enjoy - snow, skiing, travel and food 🙌 So, eloping in Queenstown was the perfect fit 😍🥳 Especially after Covid stopped us all from travelling for so long 🩵 We so enjoyed pulling their beautiful itinerary together and adventuring around the mountains with these two - thank you guys for having us! 🥰

It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally breaking the seal with these legends - Tiffany and Khang 🖤 While a whole host of things has been keeping us busy over the past few years, from Covid and life in general, to our growing team and increased interest in destination weddings…our demand for intimate weddings has skyrocketed. These amazing gatherings, filled with your day ones and VIPs, are so special. The true hybrid between elopements and weddings - still with a taste of adventure but also with a few special details (and cake!) - they are such a lovely option for anyone wanting to celebrate in Queenstown or Wanaka without compromising on your guest list. So if you’re wanting a wedding in the mountains with a party in town afterwards - you know where to find us 🌟🥰

Hello! 👋 We thought it was about time to share our faces around here again. This is our Mountain Weddings team: Warren, Steph, Anaïs, Chris and Rosa. We also cannot forget about our office pup, Willow! 🐶 We have a shared passion for incredible outdoors, helping create the best days for our lovely couples and, of course, photography. 🏔️🚁📷

Mountain Weddings was founded in 2015 by Warren, to help couples seek true adventure and to create something truly unique amidst what was originally a very narrow helicopter wedding scene at the time.

Since then, our team, our offerings and the wider industry have grown considerably. Warren is now our head photographer, leading our 4-person photography team. In 2019, Steph officially joined and became a co-owner of Mountain Weddings. Steph brought her wedding planning expertise and a dedication to client-focused experiences.

We have countless adventures to share and celebrate from the past 9 years but for now, here’s a few team photos ⚡️

We are very lucky to often see stunning landscapes with our job but being this deep in the Southern Alps was truly breathtaking. The mighty expanse of the glaciers along with the quiet and solitude - serenity - left us both speechless and in awe of the power of Mother Nature. It was truly majestic. If you love the mountains, we would 100% recommend making the trip to the West Coast and flying with .nz

Six months ago today, Lucinda and Pete wed at the gorgeous Earnslaw Burn. Today, we share the devastating news that Pete passed away 2 days ago. 😢💔 Pete has left this world far too soon but made a truly lasting impression on many.

Earlier this year, their young family had received news of a devastating diagnosis that no one should have to face, let alone such kind and humble people. We were honoured to help them get married and felt very lucky to work with local suppliers that came together to make their special day happen so quickly. We had a fantastic day in the mountains - Pete's choice of the waterfall-filled valley was truly spectacular and Lucinda had her dream of a white wedding, in the snow.

RIP Pete, you were a great man - a dedicated husband to Lucinda and devoted father to Dakota. You were also one hell of a good racing driver. To Lucinda and Dakota, our heart breaks for you. You are both in our thoughts and our hearts often. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Last night's sunset was pretty special!

We had just got back from an amazing three landing adventure with Alpine Helicopters to Isobel Glacier, Fog Peak and Alta Tarns. Steph noticed the sky lit up, so we popped down to the beach for a few more snaps.

We also saw around 10 Kea at Alta Tarns, so it was a pretty epic afternoon!
