TSUNAMI ADVISORY: Issued by the National Emergency Management Agency at 6:30am 31/07/2025.
Strong currents and surges are occurring after the M8.8 earthquake near Russia. These currents and surges can injure or drown people. Stay away from beaches, shorelines, harbours, rivers, and estuaries.DO NOT GO SIGHTSEEING.
People with boats and live-aboards should remain onshore unless directed otherwise. IF YOU ARE ONSHORE, EVACUATION IS NOT REQUIRED, but STAY AWAY FROM WATER.
This advisory applies to all coastal areas of NZ. The threat is likely to remain in force until at least midday today.
Tsunami activity has already reached parts of NZ. Initial surges may not be the largest, and activity could continue for hours. Treat the threat as real until the advisory is cancelled.
