It's not looking flash out there for the weekend with big swells forecast for Cook Strait, plus quite a bit of rain and wind in the Sounds and Eastern Marlborough from 2pm Sunday.

Check the forecast, wear your lifejacket and cancel or delay your trip, says Marlborough Harbour Master Captain Jake Oliver.

"Be aware that wind direction and wind speed can vary considerably around the headlands and bays of the Sounds."

"While Marlborough is not forecast to be as badly affected as the upper North Island, Cyclone Vaianu will still have impacts in our region. Make sure you're prepared."

✅ Secure vessels and moorings now
✅ Avoid all recreational and commercial marine activity
✅ Follow official safety advice

Mistletoe Bay Eco Village trust have been in contact & asked us to remind boaties that the bay is a 'No dogs' area. As the site is on DOC land & also used extensively by schools & youth groups, dogs & pets are not permitted on-site - this applies to people staying at the site as well as visitors.

There has been some recent chatter suggesting that a change in policy may be in the wind, this is incorrect & the Trust apologize for any confusion caused.

Please be aware there is a right of access for specified Bay homeowners who are authorized to access their properties through the bay with their dogs on a lead. Any other access must be exceptionally approved in writing by Mistletoe Bay Trust Chair.

Thank you for your understanding & co-operation.
