☕🌸 Sunday morning at Hewitts Homestead…

I’m sitting here on the deck, coffee in hand, looking out over the gardens, listening to the birds and breathing in that beautiful fresh country air.

There’s hardly a breath of wind this morning. Everything is so still, so peaceful, and so incredibly beautiful.

It’s moments like these that remind me just how special this place really is. There’s something about sitting quietly amongst the flowers, listening to nature and allowing yourself a few moments of calm before the day begins. It’s good for the soul. ❤️

And I have to admit, mornings like this make me wonder why on earth we’d ever want to leave!

But we have our reasons, and as much as we love Hewitts Homestead, we know that the time has come for a new chapter in our lives.

We’re confident that the right owners are just around the corner and we’re happy to wait for them to come along and fall in love with it, just as we did. ❤️

We’ve spent years loving, caring for and sharing this beautiful old homestead with so many people. From weddings and celebrations to quiet weekends away, it’s been a place where countless memories have been made.

And while we look forward to whatever the next chapter brings, we’re not going to wish away the time we still have here because we seriously love it!

So, for now, I’m going to keep enjoying mornings like this. The coffee, the birdsong, the gardens, the peace… and all those little things that make Hewitts Homestead feel like home. And Phil will keep getting the Homestead prepared for the next owner, because he just can’t help himself 🤣

Whatever happens next, this beautiful old lady will always hold a very special place in our hearts. 🌿🏡

Today may have been the last time I get to say these words at Hewitts Homestead…

“It’s my pleasure to announce you as married.” ❤️

Today we welcomed a lovely couple and their friends into the Homestead for their wedding. With the rain falling outside, the ceremony moved into our main lounge and actually, it was perfect.

The house was warm, light and beautiful, everything looked picture perfect, and outside the gardens were doing what they always seem to do, whatever the weather. The purple bearded irises are flowering, they always remind me of my grandmother, the lavender is looking beautiful, and even our newly finished deck received compliments from our guests today. 😊

And it made me realise just how many memories have been created here.

Over the years, so many couples have chosen Hewitts Homestead as the place to say I do. (Even though they don’t officially say that!) I’ve had the enormous privilege of not only welcoming people into our home, but of standing beside many of them as their celebrant and actually marrying them here.

So, to every couple who chose Hewitts Homestead for your wedding — thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with one of the biggest days of your lives. Thank you for filling this old house and these gardens with laughter, nerves, happy tears, beautiful dresses, families, friends, flowers, food, ch*****ne and so many wonderful memories.

I don’t actually know whether today’s wedding was our last.

We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring. Perhaps we’ll be moving on and someone else will become the custodian of this beautiful old Homestead. Perhaps we’ll still be sitting here this time next year wondering what all the fuss was about! Life has a funny way of surprising us.

And even if we do leave, I’d absolutely love the thought that one day I might walk back through these gates, not as the owner, but as a celebrant coming back to marry another couple here. ❤️

But if today was our last wedding as the owners of Hewitts Homestead, it was a rather lovely way to finish.

A wet spring day.
A beautiful old house.
A garden full of flowers.
And two people choosing each other.

What more could we ask for?

To all our Hewitts Homestead couples, past and present — thank you for choosing us. It has been an absolute privilege. ❤️

✨ And… it’s finished! ✨ Actually- not quite!!

After a LOT of scraping, stripping, sanding, blasting and wondering why on earth we started 😂, the deck at Hewitts Homestead is starting to look like it should!

It’s been a labour of love, but what a difference. The timber has come back beautifully and the whole area feels fresh again. ❤️

There’s something very satisfying about standing back at the end of a job like this and thinking… we did that!

Now I think we’ve earned a sit down on it with a cuppa. ☕️😂 or a b**r if you’re called Phil.

🐾 ELVIS IS HOME! 🐾

This afternoon we brought our beautiful old boy Elvis home after almost a week in the care of Malcolm Anderson and his wonderful team.

When I found Elvis outside last week, unable to walk and crying, I genuinely thought he was on death’s door. And, as it turned out, he pretty much was.

His bladder had become completely blocked without us knowing, and by the time we realised something was terribly wrong, his kidneys were in a very bad way. We really didn’t know whether he was going to make it.

But Malcolm acted incredibly quickly, running the tests Elvis needed and starting treatment straight away. After almost a week of IV fluids, treatment, warmth, care and probably rather a lot of fuss from the lovely girls at the clinic, something pretty remarkable has happened.

Elvis’s kidney function has returned to normal. ❤️

Malcolm described it as a miracle, and we honestly couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you, Malcolm, for your knowledge, your quick thinking and for giving our boy every chance. And a huge thank you to all the girls who have cared for him, loved him and kept such a close eye on him while he’s been away from us. This is why so many people recommend Malcolm Anderson of The Vet

Elvis is now back home at Hewitts Homestead, where he’ll be resting indoors for the next 24 hours before another check-up on Wednesday. Hopefully after that, life can start getting back to normal for him.

At 15 years old, Elvis has definitely used up another of his nine lives this week. Given that he only has three legs, we know he’s already cashed in at least one previously, so goodness knows how many he actually has left! 😂

Whatever the number, we are incredibly thankful that our special old tripod boy has a few more adventures ahead of him.
