Finally sharing a few favourites from this gorgeous garden wedding! 🤍

I caught up with Evonye & Cameron a few months ago to capture their maternity photos, which reminded me that I never shared their beautiful wedding at Anam Cara Gardens .

One of my favourite parts of this job is getting to capture so many of life’s biggest milestones. It’s such a privilege to be welcomed into people’s lives, and I never take that for granted.

Their day was an absolute stunner, blue skies, garden games, a Candy Cutique Cotton Candy cart with custom flavours, a photo booth and so many thoughtful details.

And so much of the day was brought to life by their own whānau. Evonye’s mum grew and arranged all the florals, including the dahlias in her bouquet, grown with tubers from Maxweltons Valley Blooms. Her Mums partner decorated the flower arch, cousin Kelly (a Patisserie chef) made the cake and desserts, and another cousin played piano for their first dance.
It was such a heartfelt celebration, with so many of the people they love helping bring their day to life.

Evonye looked incredible in her Trish Peng gown, with her hair styled by Nicky Oliver, while Cameron looked pretty sharp in his Rembrandt suit and black bow tie.

Such a beautiful celebration. Congratulations again, you two!

Tim and his team have installed a new light trail around the Oval Garden, extending power through to the citrus grove 🌳💡

A lovely surprise in the local paper, Ōtaki Today.

Tim's mum, Susanne Grigg, spotted this article about Cynthia Coe (who created the gardens here at Anam Cara) and lovingly clipped out a copy for us to read.

We were fortunate to have been passed on a copy of Cynthia's book, 'from birth to blessing', which tells the story of the development of the gardens and its plantings, and we love sharing that history of couples and garden visitors.

Almost 50 years later, many of the trees Cynthia planted are now the trees our couples marry beneath, and her vision of creating a place for people to gather, celebrate and find peace in nature is still very much alive.

We've always seen ourselves as the custodians/kaitiaki of the gardens as our chapter, continuing to reinvest in the land and care for what Cynthia began. Having Anam Cara recognised last year as a 4-star Garden of Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust felt like a very special way of honouring her legacy.

As for the future, as technology becomes an ever bigger part of our lives, we believe places like this, steeped in nature, history and beauty, will only become more valuable.

How lovely to see Cynthia's story being told and celebrated. Thanks Nicky Treadwell.

50-year-old trees. Ten acres of gardens. 7 different ceremony locations. A luxe Villa. Garden parties. The Garden Spa. And a whole weekend to celebrate with your favourite people.

Winter may look quiet, but behind the scenes it's one of our busiest seasons for the crew.

Over the past month or so we've:

🌲 Had our boundary macrocarpa and pouhutakawa hedges trimmed 🚜 , a huge clean up job for the crew.

🌿 Pruned over 300 hydrangeas - maybe more!!

🌹 Cut back around 50 rose bushes from the rose garden and the others sprinkled throughout the property.

🌱 Mulched the prunings and added to the garden beds

And spent countless hours preparing the gardens for the coming wedding season.

The most important work isn't what people see.

People assume gardens sleep in winter. Ours didn't get the memo. 🌿

Right now at Anam Cara the camellias and hellebores are flowering, the lawns are impossibly green, and the Nikau palms are doing their thing against a winter blue sky.

Otaki sits in one of New Zealand's mildest coastal pockets averaging 10 to 12 degree temp days during winter, and rarely a frost.

Just crisp winter air, quiet gardens and 10 private acres to wander.

It's one of our favourite times of year here where you can enjoy see the colour, smell the michelia's and check in on our furry friends.

If you've been thinking about a winter escape, a girls weekend, a garden tour or just somewhere beautiful to exhale for a few days - this is your sign.
