Tēnā Koutou Katoa
Just some information from Births Deaths and Marriages (BDM)about price increases for wedding licenses and Registry Wedding Fees.

BDM fees increase
From 18 June 2026, most Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) service and product fees will increase. Examples include:
BDM Wedding certificates: increasing from $33 to $35
BDM decorative birth certificates: increasing from $35 to $37
Marriage licence fees: increasing from $150 to $158
In addition, the registry ceremony celebrant fee will increase as a one‑off change from $90 to $175 (GST inclusive).
BDM services are fee-funded, and after nearly ten years without increases, the changes reflect rising costs.
This will be the first increase in a three-stage approach. The adjustment in 2026 will be followed by the same percentage increase in June 2027, and again in June 2028, rather than a larger one-off increase.
For more information refer to the press release Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships service and product fees increase from 18 June 2026.

I wish you all the best for your up coming weddings.

As friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and loved ones, we gathered to bid farewell to a highly esteemed brother, an exceptional uncle, a master tradesperson, painter, traveller, sports enthusiast, surfer, and a well-respected friend and mentor. James, Jamie, or Jamo was given a heartfelt farewell by many, and the paddle-out ceremony held at his local beach was a poignant and inspiring tribute. James was deeply loved and respected for his unwavering support, compassion, aroha, and guidance, always willing to lend a helping hand with his practical skills and laid-back attitude. Many fondly recalled a friend and loved whanau member affectionately known as Dad to Minty, his devoted daughter, a Staffy pup who adored him, and with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. I extend my gratitude to his two loving sisters for entrusting me with the privilege of officiating the ceremony, which was an honour to conduct in collaboration with them, creating a meaningful and memorable tribute to their beloved brother. As many have said, James will be remembered for his selfless presence, always being there for others, and his legacy will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Kia kaha. Arohanui. Muzza. It was with profound aroha, accompanied by tears, emotion, and laughter, that we celebrated the life of a distinguished local rural character. An expatriate of Wellington, a hitchhiking trip brought him to the Opunake region under the shadow of Maunga Taranaki over 50 years ago, where he resided until his passing. In accordance with his wishes, his family organized a quiet ceremony, followed by a private internment of ashes at the whanau urupa later last week. Terry's two remarkable daughters and loving wife did him justice in a special and loving way. Despite his desire for a low-key farewell, the mana that this man possessed, saw whanau and friends from around the district, all parts of New Zealand, the far north, and Australia, come to pay their respects and support his immediate whanau. Terry was a quiet, unassuming individual in every sense of the word. He was deeply devoted to his family, particularly his wife, children, and grandchildren, and more recently, his great-grandchildren. The week I spent with them was a time of learning and awe, as I witnessed the incredible skills people possess when occasions like tangi arise. The whaikorero in both Te Reo and English was outstanding and adhered to this man's wishes. His concern for family and others was evident throughout, and the stories of his life and accomplishments were both humorous and poignant, providing a fitting tribute to the man we were saying goodbye to. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Terry's family and extended whanau. To Francis, Nicola, and Maria, thank you for your exceptional hospitality and care for all those present, including myself. Your compassion for your loved husband, father, and grandfather, while balancing your own grief, demonstrated the profound aroha that you and Terry shared over many years as a close-knit Kiwi family. I also appreciate the help with the waiata and karakia that people included in the ceremony and celebration for him. They were appropriate, pertinent and appreciated. I felt privileged to be there, to be invited, and to be included in the Kahui whanau. To bid farewell to an old Taita College ex-student, as I was, the experience was emotional and deeply rewarding. I will always remember the Kahui Salute and the Kahui Breakfast with a smile and positivity that Terry embodied. Kia kaha. Arohanui. Muzza.

I was deeply honoured to be invited to officiate at the wedding of Lee and Bailey, held at Waina View Farm, a venue I had not previously had the pleasure of working at. This exceptional venue boasts a committed team, breathtaking views, and outstanding ceremony and celebration areas. The bride, groom, and their entourage presented themselves impeccably. They were an exemplary team, diligent and a delight to work with. The wedding day was a joyous celebration filled with love, laughter, and merriment. To Mr and Mrs Sanderson, I extend my warmest wishes for a bright and happy future with your family. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as your celebrant. Kiakaha Arohanui Muzza. I would like to extend my appreciation to Kathy Keddle, Best Mates Photography, bestmates.keddle.net.nz, for capturing the special moments of the day.

I returned to a favourite venue The Bungalows in Taranaki to officiate for a very hard working and delightful couple. From the very first contact phone call, the planning stages and finally onto the their special day, their wedding day. Every moment was enjoabke with them.
Throughout, Merique and Josh were a delight to work and be with. The wedding day was no different, Merique, was formerly from South Africa and Josh a local Rahotu gentlman and a former pupil of mine from Opunake High School, gave to me so much valuable information, help and support during all phases of the ceremony planning stages.
The wedding day held, at a venue that also has superb views, is such a perfect setting for those special celebrations. The guests also were in for a treat with South African fare coupled with NZ favourites made it special. These two are great friends, they love being together being part of and supporting each other in all activities and events. They are a very loving couple, of each other and all those who they come into contact with.
I wish them all the happiness and best wishes for the future and there move to the Manawatu. I thank them for inviting me to be their celebrant. I had such a great time at their wedding celebration and officiating with the marriage ceremony.

I had the pleasure officiate a “renewal of vows ceremony” for a wonderful English couple who had travelled over from the UK to be with whanau for this happy event.
The ceremony was held on the hills high above Wainuiomata in Wellington at Parangarehu Lodge. Local iwi members, who we know as friends, have done an awesome job creating this venue and the views are magnificent over looking the Wainui Coast, Eastbourne, Wellington Harbour and the South Island . It was stunning. I wish the Iwi and associated whanau all the very best with this venture. The reaction on Nick and Jules faces when we celebrated their renewal ceremony was priceless. Lots of emotion aroha and gratitude from this loving couple . To Debbie O and her whanau, my thanks for inviting me. You all are loving friends to us and it was an honour to be present. The love, joy and memories you created for Nick and Jules were very special.Nga mihi nui…Arohanui Muzza and Diane (The photos will be superb when they are released, I cannot wait to post them whanau)❤️❤️❤️🙏

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou. Last Wednesday we said goodbye to a loved whanau member and valued friend. The large attendance, by family, and those from his communities at his Life Celebration, was an indication of the many peoples lives he had been part of, during his 49 years of living life to the fullest. The korero, spoke of a life full of fun, good times, and so much worth. Dion for most of his life, had been wheel chair bound. This definitely was not a hindrance or a barrier. Speakers reflected on his independence, determination and his great love of whanau, all others, life and all that it held. This gentleman was well known around the Waitara and New Plymouth communities. A former Opunake son, Dion had a passion for Heavy Metal Bands with exotic names like Panterra, Alien Weaponary, and Infinity Ritual, to name but a few. He was also a great supporter of the local music and tattoo art scene in New Plymouth. Band members spoke highly of a fan, avid audience member, and above all a good friend and acquaintance.
To his whanau I offer my sincere condolences and wish them all the very best going forward. I thank them for the opportunity, support, information, aroha and appreciation of my role as Celebrant and the invitation to be a small part of Dion’s inspirational life with them. Dion will be sorely missed.
Nga mihi nui …
