The largest hotel in the Top of the South with 113 guest rooms, The Rutherford, has this week been put on the market with JLL in conjunction with Colliers.
I wish to acknowledge Talley’s for their ownership of the past 35 years and the significant investment in the major conference facilities added 15 years ago that have enabled our city to host hundreds of conferences. I also acknowledge their support through The Rutherford Hotel for so many tourism and promotional activities for the Nelson-Tasman region. I can appreciate, with ongoing growth of the Talley’s fish, meat, vegetable and other enterprises, that the hotel is not part of their core business.
I am very positive about the future potential of Nelson and Tasman’s visitor industry, see NZ's tourism sector as a key sector of growth and will be doing all I can to help attract a quality investor and operator to take over this iconic hotel.
