Marg Palmer - Nelson Celebrant Services

Marg Palmer - Nelson Celebrant Services It would be my privilege to deliver a personalised & unique ceremony for your wedding, funeral, or celebration of life. (CANZ).

I am an independent fully trained Celebrant available to work directly with you or alongside an Event Planner or Funeral Director. I trained through the New Zealand Celebrant School and am a member of the Celebrants Association of New Zealand Inc. I live in the Nelson region at the Top of the South Island with its abundance of idyllic and picturesque venues from National Parks to golden beaches, v

ineyards, intimate chapels and purpose built wedding venues. I am also available to take your ceremony anywhere in New Zealand and am happy to discuss locations with you. Once you have decided on your perfect location I will provide you with any extra travel costings. With a commitment of only one wedding ceremony per day, I will deliver a personalised and unique ceremony that connects you and your family and friends and holds you together as you make new memories and reawaken previous experiences. I believe that success is the result of sound preparation and planning. I will ask you many questions during our early meetings because getting to know you and your loved ones is what makes a ceremony intimate, unique and personal and identifies what aspects hold the most importance for you. I have a great deal of life experience behind me. I have worked in New Zealand and overseas, across cultures, and with those challenged by loss of physical or mental ability. I have worked with youth through to those in retirement communities. I will work with you to create your ceremony exactly the way you want it so that it is truly memorable for you and your loved ones.

Loving these words from a recent elopement couple: "Doesn't matter in a wedding if we're skinny, fat, our eyebrows look on point or what the caterer did wrong. None of it matters. It's only how we feel and how we make others feel that matters. That's why we eloped". It was such a magical day at the beach with just 2 witnesses and an expanse of love and warmth. Even the surfer was on point, managing to stand up on his board just as I pronounced this couple husband and wife. Beautiful couple, beautiful day.

How stunning is the cloud as a backdrop for today's afternoon wedding at Glenduan? And yes, any day is a wedding day, including Sunday.

One of my favourite wedding ceremony spots - Hunter Brown Reserve, Rough Island. Another stunner of a wedding day yesterday for J&D. Stretch Limo arrival for the entire wedding party, props and seating created by the couple and everything thought of for their family and close friends to enjoy the day - insect repellant, sunblock, anti-histamines, gazebos, games, refreshments. All beautifully captured by Lula of Velvet Moon Photography Congratulations J&D and thanks for having me along to get you wed. 🥰

It was such a privilege to be asked to be Celebrant for yesterday's Bride and Groom. A love story of 20 years and married at their piece of paradise in the Marlborough Sounds. Private, intimate and witnessed by family (and their best friend and his dog!) I know the photos will be amazing David James Photography but meantime I will keep their secret 🤫 Congratulations to this beautiful couple - you know who you are.🥰

Ever thought of having a surprise wedding? I have officiated a few of these and while this article doesn't mention the Celebrant, the Celebrant you choose is crucial to the surprise and success of the celebration. Secrecy is the other key factor and there is no need for anyone to know other than the couple themselves. Witnesses can be decided at the ceremony! https://myweddingmag.co.nz/the-surprise-wedding/ So have that long awaited house-warming, birthday celebration, welcome home or whatever you choose to celebrate - and celebrate with a difference.

Weddings are evolving, and one of the most exciting trends emerging in 2026 Is the surprise wedding.

Sometimes grief does something strange.
Your mind knows they’re gone.
But your heart… keeps expecting them to walk through the door.
That’s why a funeral matters.
Not because of tradition. Not because you “should.”
But because it helps bridge the gap between knowing and accepting.
Seeing the casket. Hearing stories in the past tense.
Being surrounded by others who cared.
These moments help the heart catch up to what the mind already knows.

The Exhale
A poem by Gabby Jimenez

It begins long before the last breath
Long before the room goes still
It starts in that first moment
when a diagnosis enters the air
and something inside you
quietly tightens.

From there, the waiting starts
You hold your breath without meaning to
through each update
each slow change
each “let’s see what tomorrow brings”
You learn the landscape of decline
by instinct
listening for shifts no one else hears
showing up again and again
because love holds you in place.

Caring for someone who is dying
creates its own rhythm
a steady, quiet bracing
for whatever comes next
It reshapes your days
your nights
your lungs
You try to stay ready
even when ready isn’t possible.

And then their last breath comes
Soft
Final
Not dramatic, just true.

But the breath that breaks you
isn’t theirs
It’s yours
That long, trembling exhale
you didn’t know you were holding
A release wrapped in relief
in grief
in the sharp ache
of a chapter closing.

We think the final breath
belongs to the dying.

But the truth is
the real ending is ours
the exhale that follows
the one that carries
the weight, the love, the loss
and the letting go.

That exhale…
our exhale
that’s the moment
it all becomes real.

A few kisses of rain drops before the bride arrived, a few tear drops kissing cheeks during the ceremony and then "THE" kiss as G&R were pronounced wife and husband. Congratulations to this beautiful couple.
