Karaka Pavilion has become a very familiar place for us over the years, but our relationship with the venue goes quite a bit further than simply running events there.

While we don’t own Karaka Pavilion, Ninety Nine Reasons has been entrusted to manage events across the venue throughout the years. That means working closely with the team behind the complex, our clients and our suppliers to bring everything together, whether it’s a corporate meeting, gala dinner, multi-day event or something completely bespoke.

Then there are the New Zealand Bloodstock sales, which are a world of their own. 🐎

During the Weanling, Ready to Run and National Yearling Sales, our role expands considerably. We manage the food and beverage operation throughout the complex, looking after the vendors and their staff across some very busy days.

And we actually love that side of what we do. The people working these sales have horses to prepare, showcase and ultimately sell. Their attention needs to be there, not on where the next coffee is coming from or whether everyone has been fed. Our job is to quietly make sure those things happen in the background so they can get on with what they do best.

It’s a relationship we’re incredibly proud to have been entrusted with and one that has made Karaka feel a little like a second home to the Ninety Nine Reasons team over the years. 🤍

If you’ve been through the Auckland CBD recently, you may have spotted Deschlers on Queen taking over the big billboard directly above the QBE Building and New World, which also happens to be right above the entrance to the venue itself.

And while Deschlers has its own identity as a café, meeting and event space, there’s a very natural crossover with us here at Ninety Nine Reasons. Frankie owns and operates both businesses, and when Deschlers turns from its daytime life into an event venue, our NNR team can step in to help bring everything else together.

That might mean an end-of-year corporate function, Christmas celebration, drinks and canapés, a private dinner or something completely tailored to the team involved. We can take care of the planning, catering, theming, florals, suppliers and all those moving parts we’ve spent years coordinating around Auckland.

So yes, we’re quite happy to see this reminder looming rather large over Queen Street. 😂🎄

End-of-year enquiries are already coming in across both businesses, so if Deschlers looks like the right home for yours, now is a very good time to talk to us.

Earlier last week, we were back at one of our favourite Auckland venues, , facilitating a simple afternoon tea for one of our repeat corporate clients. ☕️🍰

No elaborate production or big transformation this time. Just a lovely setting, good food and an afternoon brought together properly so our client could simply arrive and enjoy it.

After almost a decade in events, we’ve learned that our job isn’t always about creating the biggest room or the most elaborate occasion. Sometimes it’s simply making sure the right venue, catering and details are taken care of, whether that’s afternoon tea for a team or a full-scale corporate event. Many clients need small details and often struggle because most events companies primary focus is on big-scale productions. We always help where we can no matter the detail.

Always lovely to be back at Karaka, and even better when it’s for a client who continues to trust us with their events. 🤍

There are some events where the theme really does give you permission to have a bit of fun and a good old-fashioned hoedown at Karaka Pavilion is definitely one of them. 🤠

We’ve spent plenty of time at Karaka over the years, but we still love seeing just how differently these spaces can be transformed. This time it was all about bringing a little country to Karaka, with rustic styling, gingham, timber, warm lighting and all those little details that make a theme come together once the guests arrive.

A brilliant night, a great crowd, and another completely different look for a venue we know very well.

A big thank you to the teams who helped us bring this one together:

Some mornings at Karaka are worth arriving early for. ❄️

A very cold, very frosty start this week, with the grounds looking particularly beautiful as the sun came up over Karaka Pavilion.

For our corporate clients staying just across the way at DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka, mornings like this also highlight one of the things we love about holding multi-day events here. It’s barely a one-minute walk from the hotel before everyone is back inside the warmth of the Phar Lap Room and Garden Bar, ready for day three.

Hotel, meeting spaces and beautiful surroundings all within a few steps of each other, even when Auckland decides to turn on a proper winter morning.

Some names are worth bringing back, and Frances “Frankie” Mahoney is still the name behind it all.

Recently better known for her events prowess in today’s scene, she was the original founder of Deschlers on High Street - a small Auckland bar that became known for its music, its atmosphere and the jazz that regularly filled the tiny stage in its street-front window.

Years later, Frankie has brought Deschlers back, this time on Queen Street, and reimagined for a very different Auckland.

Deschlers on Queen takes the character and hospitality of the original and places it firmly in the heart of the corporate CBD. A place for morning coffee, long lunches, meetings away from the office and private events after hours, all within the quiet luxury of the QBE Centre.

The address has changed. The city has changed. Deschlers has evolved with it.

But Frankie is once again behind the name.

Daffodil Day has rolled around again 💛🌼 and for one of our repeat clients.

We’ve been doing this one for a few years now, and it’s always a pleasure to see activations come together. There are plenty of delicious details still to come as we delivered for this Daffodil say an aromatic and delicious. Bake Sale, but first, the flowers.

Our resident Ninety Nine Florals florist, Liz, has once again worked her magic, creating these beautiful arrangements to bring a little more colour and, of course, plenty of daffodil yellow to the occasion. 🌼

There’s something rather lovely about a room filled with fresh flowers and the smell of baking, particularly when it’s all being done in support of such an important day.

More to come from the bake sale (and the goodies!) very soon. 🧁💛

Friday was pack-in day for Winetopia 2026, with the Ninety Nine Reasons team onsite setting up for two very different New Zealand wine brands, and . 🍷

This is the side of events we spend a lot of our time in. Working with what each brand already has, understanding how they want to present themselves, then bringing all the pieces together onsite so that when the doors open, everything is where it needs to be.

For Matahiwi, that meant florals, product presentation and working around that beautiful vineyard sunset backdrop. For Nevis Bluff, a much more pared-back Central Otago feel, with timber wine boxes, plinths, lighting and a clean display that let the wine and their imagery do the talking.

Two neighbouring stands, two completely different identities and that’s exactly how it should be.

Another Winetopia pack-in done and ready for a very busy weekend. 🥂
