I caved…

Finally invested in a leaf blower.

And honestly, I am not sure if I am now a practical gardener or just a woman with a new toy and a lot of yellow leaves to conquer.

Winter in the garden has made the to-do list very visible this week.

Leaves everywhere.
Paths that need clearing.
Edges that need tidying.

The garden is talking out loud at this point, asking for some help before we properly bed down for winter.

And, as often happens, the garden got me thinking about events.

Because the events that bloom beautifully in spring do not start in spring.

They start now.

With the quiet work.
The planning.
The positioning.
The conversations.
The thinking about who needs to be in the room, and who might help make that room even better.

That is especially true when it comes to sponsorship and new partnerships.

The good ones do not usually happen in a rush at the end.

They need time to take root.

Time to find the right people.
Time to shape the right story.
Time to create something that feels useful, aligned and genuinely connected.

For me, that is where the real magic sits.

Not simply adding a logo to a page, but creating a partnership that adds value to the event, the audience and the organisation showing up.

So while the garden may be all yellow leaves and winter layers right now, behind the scenes this is a very good season for laying the base for spring events.

A little clearing.
A little planning.
A little strategy.
A few good conversations.

And then, hopefully, something rather lovely starts to grow.

What conversations could you start now that might help your spring event grow?
I'd love to know what you are doing now that will come to fruition in the spring, drop a comment and let me know 😉

Fresh out the other side of conference delivery, and straight into all the post-event mahi.

Because as anyone in events knows, the work does not stop when the last delegate heads home.

There is the debrief.
Uploading recordings.
Tidying invoices.
Checking the budget.
Pulling together the debrief report.
Reviewing analytics.
Sending the post-event survey.

It is the less glamorous side of events, perhaps, but it is such an important part of the process.

This is where you get the full picture.
What worked well.
What needs refining.
What the numbers say.
What the feedback tells you.
And what will make the next one even better.

It has been a full of strategy, delivery, problem solving, sponsorship conversations, and plenty of behind-the-scenes juggling.

And, truth be told, I still really love it.

If you work in events, what is the one post-event job that you find always takes longer than expected?

After months of planning, hundreds of moving parts, and more spreadsheets, run sheets and name tags than I can count, the PLNZ National Forum 2026: Kura Huna has wrapped.

And what a Forum it was.

Over two days in Ōtautahi Christchurch, public library leaders, teams, sponsors, speakers and sector partners came together for thoughtful kōrero, practical insight, big questions, and genuine connection.

From the pre-arrival reception at Tūranga, to the 2 day Forum at , to the Delegates Dinner at the Great Hall, in the Arts Centre, this event was a reminder of what happens when people gather with purpose.

There were keynote speakers, international perspectives, regional updates, workshops, sponsor conversations, coffee queues, dinner quiz laughs, and few of those behind-the-scenes moments that only an event team will ever truly understand. IYKYK!

A huge thank you to Public Libraries New Zealand for trusting Virtually There Events to support the delivery of this national event. It is always a privilege to help bring your community together.

Thank you also to the sponsors and exhibitors who helped make the Forum possible. Your support adds so much value, not just through funding, but through the connections, ideas and sector knowledge you bring into the room.

And to the speakers, panellists, delegates, volunteers, venue teams, AV crew, caterers, and everyone who played a part - ngā mihi nui.

Events like this do not happen by accident. They happen through planning, partnership, care, flexibility, and a lot of calm problem-solving when the unexpected pops up.

I am heading home tired, grateful, and very proud of what was created.

Now for a cup of tea, a proper sleep, and maybe not looking at a run sheet for at least 24 hours.

🙌 team PLNZ National Forum, Kura Huna 2026! You have all been a bloody delight to work with!

Coming up for air soon… and opening up capacity, from the end of June.

The first half of the year has been full of event delivery, and if I’ve been a little quieter online, it is because I’ve been deep in the work.

The kind of work that involves head counts, run sheets, name tags, speaker logistics, sponsor details, timelines, troubleshooting, and all the moving parts that sit behind a well-run event.

From the end of June, I’ll have space to support a small number of new projects.

If you are planning a conference, workshop, retreat, or business event for later this year and would like experienced support behind it, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Whether you need help with strategy, sponsorship, planning, or delivery, I’d love to hear what you are working on.

Let’s chat. 📥 📧 or 📲

What’s the goss with Tania?

Conference planning is in full swing. Sponsorship chats are happening thick and fast. ROI is still king. And behind the scenes, there is a whole lot of strategy, coordination, and moving parts being held together.

So yes, plenty going on.

The useful bit of goss is this: from the end of June, I’ll have capacity for a small number of new projects.

If you have an event coming up later this year and want experienced support behind it, now is a good time to start the conversation. 😉

Thinking about hiring a full-time event manager?

There may be a smarter option.

You do no need a permanent employee to deliver a great event.

What you really need is experienced support for a fixed period, with clear deliverables, and without the overhead that comes with a full-time hire.

Working with an event contractor can be a smart way to:

👉 save time
👉 reduce pressure on your team
👉 bring in specialist expertise
👉 keep support tied to a project or event
👉 avoid adding permanent headcount

For conferences, workshops, retreats, and business events, that flexibility can make a real difference.

I’ve unpacked more in my latest blog:
Before You Hire a Full-Time Event Manager, Consider This you can find it here https://bit.ly/4vJ3Roa

ROI has always mattered in sponsorship.

But these days, it needs to be crystal clear and easy for a sponsor to understand.

Sponsors are asking smarter questions. They want to know exactly what they are saying yes to, who they will reach, what value sits in the opportunity, and how that investment will work for their brand.

And honestly, I think that is a good thing.

Because it means sponsorship is being viewed more strategically than ever before.

It is no longer enough to offer a logo on a screen, a mention from the stage, and hope that lands.

🎯 Sponsors want audience fit.
🎯 They want value alignment.
🎯 They want clear return on investment.
🎯 They want practical business value.
🎯 They want visibility that cuts through.
🎯 They want opportunities that feel commercially worthwhile.

This is a lot when you head is in the "wanting to make my event the best" mode.

BUT

The strongest sponsorship opportunities are the ones that make those things clear.

They are well thought through, well positioned, and built around genuine partnership, not just filling a package.

That is where the real value sits.

And it is why sponsorship now needs sharper thinking, stronger packaging, and a clearer story than ever before.

If sponsorship is part of your event plan, it is worth asking whether your opportunities are showing the value a sponsor genuinely needs to see.

ROI = Return on Investment 😉

Still smiling after this one.

A huge thank you to Toastmasters Wairarapa for such a fun and encouraging evening. To come away with Joint Best Table Topic, Best Grammarian, and Best Evaluator after only a few months with the club was pretty special.

What I’m loving most about Toastmasters is the chance to keep growing, keep listening, and keep finding my voice in new ways. It is such a supportive space, and nights like this remind me how powerful it is to step up, give things a go, and back yourself.

Also, a little team win thrown in for good measure made the night even better.

Ngā mihi to everyone who has encouraged me along the way. What a night.

In the Wairarapa and keen to come along as a guest? Send me through a DM, I'd be only too happy to share details.

April is a good time for a little reminder that you do not have to carry your event planning alone.

One of the questions I get asked most often is, “When should we bring you in?”

And the honest answer is, wherever you are at.

Sometimes that is right at the beginning, when the idea is still forming and you need help shaping the direction, the timeline, and the next right steps.

Sometimes it is mid-stream, when the moving parts are multiplying and what is needed is structure, momentum, and someone who can see the bigger picture.

And sometimes it is closer to delivery, when you need an experienced pair of hands to pull everything together and protect the experience on the day.

Right now, I’m supporting clients across:

🎯 event strategy and planning
🎯 sponsorship conversations and partner alignment
🎯 conferences, workshops, and retreats
🎯 on-site delivery and event ex*****on
🎯 stepping in when things need clarity and calm

That flexibility is one of the things I value most about the work I do.

No two events are the same, and no two clients need support in exactly the same way.

So if you have something on the horizon for 2026 and want strategic support behind it, now is a good time to start the conversation.
