My why 🌱

Growing up, my parents weren’t really into gardening. Mum loved her roses, and Sundays were for mowing lawns (and swinging off the clothesline ), but that was about it.

What I do remember clearly is spending time watching my Nana in her garden. She absolutely loved it — always pottering around, taking so much pride in what she grew. Nana had a real love for roses. She showed me snapdragons and how the little buds opened and closed, and she loved cutting roses to display around her home. They always smelled divine.

As a pre-teen, I once had a friend over and, for reasons still unknown, we decided to “prune” the trees out the front… by prune, I mean absolutely hack them back. We had zero experience but a lot of fun. As we admired our work, Mum shouted out the window, “What on earth have you done to the garden?!” (With a few extra curly words I’ll spare you 😉).

That’s still how I seem to roll today — learning as I go and usually taking the hardest route possible.

Sadly, my Nana passed away almost four years ago, which makes those garden memories even more special. I think I got my green fingers from her. Being in the garden makes me feel close to her, and that’s a big part of why I do what I do.

Thanks so much for being here 🤍
