This Monday, join us for Assembly Concert Club: Funk Shui.

This special series offers a chance to celebrate the joy of local music, reconnect with the charm and history of the Ballroom and share memories of the space. Gather with your fellow music lovers to appreciate the talent that continues to enrich our region’s cultural heartbeat.

After a brief venture into another space, we're back in the Assembly Ballroom this month; with the wonderful group Funk Shui!

Funk Shui brings together three seasoned Hawke's Bay musicians united by their love of slick grooves, sweet harmonies and good vibes. With fresh takes on funk, soul and pop favourites, their performances have an infectious energy that will have you grooving along, tapping your feet, and humming tunes all the way home.

Father-son duo Caleb and Micah Robinson make up the rhythm section, joined by Natalie Meszaros on keys. Together they combine tight musicianship with the spontaneity and energy that comes from making music with family and good friends.

Graduates of the New Zealand School of Music, both Caleb and Natalie hold Bachelor of Music degrees with First Class Honours in jazz bass and classical piano respectively. Between them they have performed with artists including Little Bushman, Iva Lamkum, Aaradhna, John Psathas, Rodger Fox, Louis Baker, Will Martin and many others.

Whether it's irresistible dance grooves or soulful ballads, on festival stages or in intimate halls, Funk Shui is here to make music that brings joy.

The James Lowe Big Band, the Bay's premier jazz orchestra, is bringing together 20 phenomenal musicians for an evening that reimagines your favourite pop and rock classics with a big-band twist. Think powerful horn sections, infectious rhythms and dynamic arrangements that will have the whole room moving.

The night kicks off with a special opening set from the Hawke's Bay Youth Jazz Orchestra — a chance to hear and support the next generation of local jazz talent before the main event.

Then it's over to the James Lowe Big Band, taking you on a journey through some of the biggest hits of the last few decades, from "Mercy" and "Crazy" to "Wonderwall" and beyond, all reimagined through a swing lens.
