Kia ora everyone.

⛳️ Tairāwhiti Secondary Schools Golf Competition ⛳️

What a fantastic day out on the course yesterday for the Tairāwhiti Secondary Schools Golf Competition! The players were treated to absolutely beautiful weather, making for perfect playing conditions and an enjoyable day for all involved.

A huge thank you to Poverty Bay Golf Club for hosting such a well-run event — your support of youth golf in our region is hugely appreciated.

We’d also like to acknowledge our generous sponsors who made the day possible:
Tairāwhiti Golf, Emerre & Hathaway, Andy Abraham’s Insurance, and Poverty Bay Golf Club for their financial contributions.

Special thanks as well to Kit the Caterer for keeping everyone well-fed, Adrianne behind the bar and to the green staff for presenting the course in outstanding condition.

Awesome to see the next generation of golfers out there competing and enjoying the game 👏

A huge shoutout to Paul Jefferson for his efforts in getting so many Gisborne Boys High School Students to sign up for this tournament.

Last but certainly not least, we had the most female golfers fielded in a Secondary Schools competition yesterday. An amazing 28 female competitors, mostly comprising of Gisborne Girls High School students, who unsurprisingly, took out the highest honours in both the Gross and Ambrose competitions. A huge thank you to Kelly Warren and Arna Majstrovic for putting in the time and effort to support the girls.

Thank you for a wonderful day and hopefully we will see you all at the Tairawhiti Junior Masters (TBC)

A great event is coming to our region with the New Zealand Senior Women’s Championship hosted by Poverty Bay Golf Club on Awapuni Links.

There are still some spots available, and we’d love to see the wider Tairāwhiti golf community get in behind it. This is a chance to showcase the best of golf out east - our courses, our people, and our local talent - while also welcoming players from around the country and across the Tasman.

Let’s make it an event to be proud of and show why Tairāwhiti is such a great place to bring national championships. Looking forward to February and seeing plenty of familiar faces out there!

Follow the link on the Awapuni Links update for more and to register.

NZ Senior Women's Championship 2026

February 16-19 | Poverty Bay Golf Club | Awapuni Links

Saddles are tightening out east. The course queens of the Wild, Wild East are riding into Awapuni Links as the New Zealand Senior Women’s Championship edges towards a full field.

The field is capped at 128 and we’re closing in on 100 confirmed starters, with players travelling from around the country and across the Tasman to lasso the silverware. This is a national-stage showdown, with lively social festivities around the championship still to be announced.

The fairways will be ready, the gunslingers are lining up, and we’d love to see strong local representation defending our patch on home turf. If you’ve been circling this one, now’s the time to throw your hat in.

Entries are filling fast. Out east, it’s game on.
