When a school field trip goes hilariously wrong, five students find themselves stranded on the banks of the Taruheru river. Left behind by the school vans, Maia, Stu, Steve, Jose, and Rewai must embark on an unforgettable, mystical journey to find their way to Tarere Marae.

Guided by our tipuna, Tauwheoro and encountering the mysterious Patupaiarehe, the group must navigate treacherous waters by waka, chart the stars of Matariki, and summon the courage to pass through an impenetrable ngahere. Along the way, they discover that finding home requires more than just a map—it means mastering their core values: Manaakitanga, Mōhiotanga, Maiatanga, and Whanaungatanga.

Join us for Te Ara O Tauwheoro, a vibrant, heartwarming school production filled with laughter, dance, and deep cultural pride. Will they weave their values together and make it back in time for kai?

Toitū Te Reo! Here at Gisborne War Memorial Theatre we are delighted to have completed our bilingual signage project. Now all internal signage is bilingual Te Reo/English (where possible). Let us know if you noticed the new signage and if you've learned to say them in Te Reo!

Big mihi to our Gisborne District Council colleague Ben Green, recognized with Australasian Institute of Emergency Services national award for excellence.

Tairāwhiti Emergency Management group manager Ben Green has become known around the country as an innovator who is generous with his knowledge . . . and now that has been recognised across the Tasman too.
This month he received the Australasian Institute of Emergency Services national award for excellence. It’s an annual gong that is presented to an individual or organisation who are stand-outs in the emergency management sector.
Services chair David Parsons, who travelled from Australia to present the award, said Ben was held in the highest regard by his peers in New Zealand. “He has made not only a contribution to emergency management in his community but his country and internationally as well,” he said. “He is an innovator who is always exploring initiatives to improve the emergency management capability of Tairāwhiti.”
