Where to start… it’s been a while 😅
First of all — OMG it’s Christmas Eve 🎄 I honestly don’t know where the last three weeks have gone. Busy doesn’t even cover it.

How busy, you ask?
Let’s just say nearly 100,000 steps across some incredible Dunedin venues 😮
It’s been absolutely massive for us at bbcatering, while still keeping up with bbquick-Meals demand — our kitchen has been on fire (thankfully not literally 😂).

Here’s a snapshot of the madness that was our December:

• Mercy Hospital Errick's Venue Dunedin – an awesome Christmas lunch with carved ham, fresh salads, and a huge selection of finger foods… plenty for seconds (and thirds!).

• Anna & Tim’s Wedding Orokonui Ecosanctuary - Te Korowai o Mihiwaka – our first ever Monday wedding! It was incredible to witness how beautifully Filipino culture celebrates — such joy and energy.

• Education Perfect @ Roslyn Bowling Club – thunder and lightning forced bowls indoors, which turned into great fun games followed by a two-course dinner: buffet mains and desserts.

• DCC Whānau Day Araiteuru Marae – so good to see the DCC using our Matawaka Marae for their staff celebration.

• Davidson Wedding @ Lochend Woolshed – glazed ham and finger foods as the perfect pre-dinner munch before the food trucks rolled in.

• Polson Higgs Long Room – canapés, mains and desserts served along one stunning long table. A brilliant night had by all.

• Nafatali Luncheon @ EFKS – a true privilege to support close whānau in celebrating the life of their Taua. We were extremely humbled to help take some pressure off our whānau pani. Traditional dishes like green banana, oka and chop suey were shared and enjoyed.

• And finally, back to Orokonui Ecosanctuary - Te Korowai o Mihiwakafor our last event of the year — celebrating the wedding of Louisa, Wendy, David & Thomas with a delicious main course including our vegan curry and fluffy jasmine rice 🌱🍚

So that wraps up our year.
We’re having a wee bit of downtime over the holidays to recoup… before heading straight back into a double wedding as our first events of 2026 (I really need to have a word with whoever takes these bookings 😆).

A huge, massive thank you to all our customers who trusted us with their special days, work events and family celebrations.
To the venues and teams we love working alongside — we can’t wait to do it all again.
And finally, to our incredible staff who back us every single event — we truly couldn’t do this without you, thank you for delivering delicious food and friendly, professional service time and time again ❤️

Last weekend saw our teams split again on Saturday night, heading to the beautiful Orokonui Ecosanctuary - Te Korowai o Mihiwaka and the Otago Yacht Club
It was a pleasure to work for the first time this season with Victoria and the Orokonui crew to ensure Helene & Shong Min and their whānau had a fantastic day. The gothic theming of black, purple, and red looked incredible – the flowers were stunning… and then the bride arrived wearing a deep purple gown.OMG, WOW! Absolutely breathtaking.
Helene was such a thoughtful host, ensuring from the start that the menu accommodated all her guests and their dietary needs. And just to elevate her to hostess with the mostess – she made sure everyone got cake! Alongside an amazing black and red wedding cake, we served a special dietary “Kraken” cake with tentacles of almond icing and also vegan cupcakes. How cool is that?
Some of our menu highlights, Vietnamese rolls with coriander plum sauce, housemade satay chicken skewers with canapés, for mains, we served delicious vegan curry with the fluffiest rice, slow cooked roast lamb and salmon fillets and to finish off & accompany the two spectacular wedding cakes, fresh fruit salad, blueberry vegan slice and blackforest cuts
A gorgeous night with great people, great food, and great vibes.

Over at the Otago Yacht Club, we hosted a 3-course meal for the Otago Property Investors, we’re extremely thankful to have catered their Christmas Dinner for the past three years.
The evening started with a round of canapés, followed by a delicious main buffet featuring our famous glazed ham and Mediterranean vegetable salad with feta and then dessert was Pavlova, Christmas pudding with Drambuie custard, and for those going “healthy”… fresh fruit salad (you too could have a delicious ham for Xmas, cooked, glazed and chilled, give us a message for more info)
A big thank you to the Otago Yacht Club team for working with us again to deliver this special event.
What’s Ahead??....
It’s been a pretty quiet start to the week on the event front, but the kitchen is constantly busy replenishing bbquick meals as they fly out the door!
But on Sunday, we’re back at Errick's Venue Dunedin for Mercy Hospital’s Christmas Party, and then next week we kick things off with a Monday wedding back at Orokonui. Yes… a Monday wedding! First time for everything!

So… I didn’t quite keep my promise about taking more photos — last weekend was just full-on and the camera never made it out! But let me tell you about the amazing couples and venues we had the pleasure of working with…

Friday took us to the beautiful Corstorphine House to help Helen & Tom (and wee Hugo!) celebrate with their whānau and friends.
Thursday had been scorching hot in the conservatory, but Friday brought a soft drizzle — it didn’t dampen a thing. A gorgeous ceremony under the gazebo, followed by canapés and bubbles in the warm conservatory, set the tone for a relaxed and happy evening.

For the main event, guests enjoyed our carved ham and slow-roasted lamb — and Chef Gordon loved having a good natter with everyone as he carved! Then it was straight into dancing and singing thanks to an awesome cover band. To finish the night off properly, we brought out a supper of glazed ham, fresh breads, and pinwheel sammies. A fantastic night all round.

Saturday had us at Tautuku Fishing Club — our first time there this season — celebrating with Kaitlin & Jack. What an absolutely stunning day! Guests moved easily between inside and outside, with the ceremony on the lawn and canapés making their way around the entire venue (no one missed out!).

Dinner was a buffet designed to cover all dietary needs — and the star of the show? Chef Gordon’s vegetarian curry.
OMG… even the meat lovers went back for seconds! Paired with our Mediterranean vegetable salad, famous broccoli salad, and Waldorf, the menu went down a treat. Loved their wedding cake from baked_and_raised

What’s coming up?
This Saturday we’re heading to Orokonui Ecosanctuary - Te Korowai o Mihiwaka and the Otago Yacht Club … but I’ll fill you in on those next week — and yes, I promise to try and get more photos this time!

Nothing like kicking off wedding season all guns blazing! 💥💍
What an amazing last weekend — my body is finally back to as normal (as it can be!) 😅

We had our first wedding on Friday at Errick's Venue Dunedin and what a beautiful way to start.
A huge thank you to the Errick's Venue Dunedin and Nicholls & Co Wedding and Events teams for helping us settle into a brand-new venue. We’re really excited to be part of more events there in the future!
An extra-special thank you to Jemima and Elijah and their whānau for welcoming us into the venue and allowing us to help celebrate their big day — it couldn’t have been more perfect. 💕

On Saturday, our teams split:

Honey and team headed to Lochend Woolshed to look after Mikayla and Braden’s special day — another huge thanks to Julz and the Encore Events team, we love working alongside you to make sure our mutual customers are happy. 🙌

Meanwhile, my crew and I were at Grandview Gardens Outram, always a pleasure working with Jo and her team — everything is always on point!
Michelle and Liam, wow — what a party! 🎉 Two cultures coming together beautifully — and by the end of the night, you couldn’t tell who was who (except for the kilts!) 💃🕺

A huge thank you goes to Chef Gordon, Fia, and our incredible kitchen crew for once again producing phenomenally, delicious food for all our guests (as well as still producing meals for bbquick)

First weekend of our wedding season and we don't do things by halves .... 3 beautiful couples we get to help celebrate their special days. Tonight we head to Errick's Venue Dunedin for the first time looking forward to working with Jasmine & Rachel Nicholls & Co Wedding and Events. Tomorrow we split our teams and head to the beautiful wedding venues of Grandview Gardens Outram and Lochend Woolshed, so looking forward to working with theses amazing people to create lasting memories for our brides, grooms and whanau
