I reckon one of the hardest job I have as a flower farmer is to pull out the spent crops . Especially when it’s my favourite flower, the mighty Lisianthus. But it was time , for I could see they were stressed and attracting aphids into the tunnel house which is not something I want or actually expect in June , however with the mild weather it is a real risk.
In warmer climates they are treated as short lived perennials and when I pulled back the wool mulch I could see them shooting up new growth so as a trial I have cut some back and potted them up to see if the survive the rest of winter.
I have so enjoyed having these blooms in my life for the last four months so here is a wee montage to celebrate their beauty.
Next season I am going all in, planting twice the area I had this year and more colours.
