Yahoo the first day of Spring, but as gardeners we know September is the most turbulent month of the year! Nor Wests and frosts are our big worries while the fruit tree bloom. But it is also the most exciting time of the year as those dormant tubers start the first stage of their awakening.
Though the blooms of dahlias will not be out to mid to late December their little eyes are starting to swell making it easier to ensure all the tubers I have are viable .
So here is some the pretty blooms of the tubers that will be for sale on the 20th.

Last night of my floral course at Bourbon Rose Florists.
We had to bring the last six weeks together and create a large hanging installation.
So so much fun!
Really proud of this.

It really is hurry up and wait time of the year! My fingers are itching to get my hands on blooms that are still just popping through the ground. My garden plan keeps changing. I am seriously considering since the rotary hoe is attached to the tractor of making another garden bed or two! Of course it’s not like I can keep up with all I have now, but has that ever stopped me before?
In other words just a typical spring!
So keep following along for I will be loading the events I have planned shortly. It is going to be so much fun to be running workshops again, I have missed doing them.
And sharing my flowers and garden with you all.

Time is flying . 8 days to the man made day of spring, the 1st of September and one month until the seasons really change at the Spring Equinox on the 23rd of September . And five classes out of six have been held in my floral design course.
For those that know me well, will know I have far more energy at 5am then 7pm . I really am one of those annoying morning people. So a class held from 6-8.30pm with an hours drive each way was always going to be a big commitment. But I am so enjoying it.
This week it was all about making a flower meadow . Then all seven got put to together which was just amazing. As always I forgot any sort of photographing devise so you just get to see mine.

Look how they grow! Out in the sun to toughen up and get a deep water. First seaweed soak also achieved. I alternate between seaweed and fish fertiliser. Which is always interesting when brought back inside lol.
Open farm and plant sale is a month today and so much to do!

Still feeling very spoilt for having access to such beautiful blooms and still feeling very conflicted knowing the travel miles and the high chemical use to grow them. But that’s just more motivation to grow more this season and look at more ways to extend the season through creating little microclimates around the property. Was definitely out in the minus 3.5 frost yesterday looking for the areas that didn’t have such a hard frost on them. And yes there was some new areas to monitor.

I am really enjoying the time with flowers at the Bourbon Rose flower school. It’s great to get a refresh on skills and learn new techniques. Also it’s orchid season in NZ so we got a beautiful bloom to play with. I think I did its beauty justice.

The first day of winter which means we are only one season 12 short (long) weeks away from the bounty of flowers Spring brings!
Celebrating that I still have flowers to play with after a very mild late autumn.
From this to this.

They are not the glorious size they were a month back but Cafe a Latte blooms at the end of May are something to be treasured! Shows we have yet to have a heavy frost as does the blasted aphids I see around!

Well all the squirrelling away of excess flowers in summer to dry is now paying off. My fresh flower season is officially over😪 but flowers I still have.
Now to be honest I have not been a fan off dried flowers for they bring back memories of dusty dead looking arrangements from the eighties (Yep I can remember back that far). So it was with trepidation I have gone done this path. But I do think I have taken a modern twist on the standard dried bunch . And I have purposely only chosen blooms that hold their colour and all have been picked and dried in their prime.
But these bunches are not meant to last past the first blooms of spring when once again I can bring joy with fresh flowers! And as I keep saying it’s only 16 weeks to Spring!
So pop down to Dandelion and Clover for your floral fix.
