Welcome to my favourite day of the year!
The 1st of September and the first day of Spring.
Yes I know many think spring starts the day after the equinox but not I! Because the thought of making winter last longer is just not something I can cope with lol.
So my life is full on seed planting, as always trying to push a few boundaries. Like when I was planting my zinnias in the last days of winter and it says on the packet not to plant them too early in spring . So technically I was following the rules🤣 wasn’t I?
But I do have space in my very heat controlled lounge to look after them and a very tolerant husband.
So heres to a wonderful flower season to us all.
Let me know what you are planning just now.
PS this is just a small sample of my seed box not quite ready to show the extent of my addiction!

First tulips of the season. I utterly love the mellowness of this one, off to be placed on my Grandads grave. 34 years ago he died just as the big snow hit. Let’s hope this weather event isn’t that big!

What a week!
Sometimes life just throws curveballs and this week they seemed to be hitting from multiple directions!
And some where in the middle of all that I had the joy of doing flowers for an elopement. I just love that a bride wanted to embrace seasonal flowers for her wedding bouquets and beautiful dried for her daughter’s flower crowns. Her colour palette was forest green, brown and ivory. With a little outside the square thinking I really enjoyed putting this together.
What ever the season as long as your embrace it, beauty in nature can be found.

What an amazing weekend spent with the NZ Professional Florist Association who hosted Master Florist Gregor Lersch from Germany.
What an incredible opportunity to watch a Master at work, his skills and attention to detail were amazing, he made it look so easy! And trust me when it came time to play with flowers it definitely wasn’t. But it has opened up a whole another area of floristry that I didn’t even know existed and now I need to find time to play and practice.
I will post a lot of videos so look out for them for they really show the detail of his work.

Frosty mornings equals dried flower mornings.
So another tub of beautifully bright dried flowers off to Johnny Fresh Darfield.
Only weeks away from fresh flowers once again being in store.
At 15$ a bunch they are a great wee treat for yourself or to brighten someone else’s day.
And have been grown to organic standards so nasty residues on these beauties.

Well I finally did it. I stood in front a full room of people and created a beautiful arrangement.

I honestly was amazed at how nervous I was, for the first time in years I sent Mike off to the chemist to buy me a bottle of rescue remedy!
I often do public speaking but public creating is very different.

When I make a flower arrangement I get into a flow, the outside world kinda disappears and the flowers and foliage is all I can see. I love it, it’s peaceful. It’s also how my brain works with anything I get passionate about.
I honestly wasn’t sure I could find that flow and connection to the flowers while also trying to talk and explain what I was doing. But I think I did.

I have learnt a heap from doing it, especially about proportions and perspective. Because everyone in the crowd was sitting at a lower level than I was working at they were seeing it quite differently to me. I should have gone and sat down with them occasionally to see it from their perspective. It is something I do when I am making an arrangement for a particular place, I try to view it how it will be seen.
This was really apparent to me when people stood to come view it, I heard the comments on how different it looked.

When I got home I played for approximately ten seconds and it changed the whole arrangement from one that needed looking down and into, to one that was balanced from all perspectives. Hopefully the photos show you that.

I am off to Wellington at the weekend to a course being held by a German Master Florist. I can’t wait, for I don’t know what I don’t know and I am so looking forward to adding another layer of learning to my floral addiction.

For me life is enhanced every time I follow my passions and I encourage you to follow yours.

I do love a wee bargain and do like to repurpose things so when the two come together it is bliss.
I totally recommend the newest addition to Darfield - The Darfield Op Shop everything is $5 unless priced and some beautiful wee treasures to be found. Today’s find was this delicate glass compote and I just could see the colour enhancing the winter roses and daphane which are coming into abundance.
