NO Fertiliser, Lime, compost or other feed (unless a clearly labeled specialist fertiliser for Proteacae family)

A vigourous growing shrub which produces long stems of deep red bracts from autumn to early winter. Bracts then change colour to red and cream late winter-spring.

Another beautiful morning on the peninsula and only a light frost.
Many people believe that proteas can’t handle frosts but once established and planted in the correct place, many varieties can handle up to -5. One of our wonderful customers in Wanaka even has a Leucospermum going well under the eves of the house.
Tips for frosty areas
* Plant somewhere sheltered that doesn’t get the early morning sun in winter (They need time to thaw)
* Cover your plants while they are young and you know a good frost is coming
*Dont prune until September, that way the new growth is later to start and less likely to be knocked by the frosts
* If you do suffer frost damage prune hard and make sure you cover when frost is predicted for the rest of the winter.

"An erect shrub that produces long stems terminating in a cone that reddens as it develops from September to November. Considered endangered in its native Western cape of South Africa"
