“PE LELE LE TOLOA I FEA, E MA AU LAVA I LE VAI.”

This Samoan proverb keeps us grounded as Ata Mai Creative and is one we have the honour of witnessing come alive time and time again when we see our people in the diaspora adorned in our measina.

Our vision for this shoot was to capture the harmony between cultural heritage and professional success. We photographed Manu Samoa player, Aki Seiuli, in traditional Samoan attire, accented with elements of his rugby career, symbolizing his deep connection to the sport. In contrast, when dressed in his rugby uniform, we incorporated Samoan measina—the ula fala and a fue, both powerful symbols of Samoan culture.

Just like the toloa, no matter how far we journey, our roots remain. Aki does not have to choose between his cultural identity and his career—they are seamlessly intertwined. Both aspects coexist, shaping who he is, proving that success and heritage can thrive together as one.

If I look back to the beginning of our Ata Mai Creative journey, I never wanted to or even planned on ever becoming a photographer 😂

There’s a lot of things this small business has become that never crossed my mind when I wrote up my business plan in 2023. I just wanted to provide cultural attire for my local Canterburians to hire for events or photoshoots with a photographer they’d book themselves.

It wasn’t until my business mentor evaluated my business plan and what resources I had access to that she asked why I wouldn’t just do photography. Even then I agreed it would be better to offer photography as well so I had plans to contract a photographer - someone more experienced behind the lens… not me 😂

I invested a few thousand into a decent camera and a lens anyway, and while I still contract our gifted team members to photograph some of our sessions… I have accidentally become the main photographer of Ata Mai Creative 😅

I’ve learnt A LOT and researched, asked lots of questions, watched lots of videos and continue to discover new tips on not only how to best capture photos but how to continually master my editing (learnt early on it’s not as simple as picking a filter!!! And each photo needs love and attention 🙈).

You’ll notice our pricing on our website reflects both the time that goes into preparing for and capturing your visual memoirs that’ll last forever but also to honour the hours that are spent editing each photograph.

We’ve been able to bless people with photoshoots, capture treasured moments of friends and family, exchange hugs for tears on set in moments of vulnerability with clients and seen God’s hand in all of it. His plans and thoughts are definitely higher than my own cos I couldn’t have imagined the opportunities and possibilities this has opened up for me both personally and for Ata Mai Creative.

I’m grateful for what we’ve been able to achieve as a team so far and I have so much to still learn and grow in but I’ve honestly fallen in love with the process and am grateful for God’s kindness and provision through this craft.

So, don’t be afraid to try new things!!! You never know where it might take you!! 🥹

I had a minor surgery this week which meant forced rest but also an opportunity to finally catch up on our admin! Including our updating our website ☺️

Our website now has all the info you need! Our pricing is firm and as our team continues to grow and excel in our respective crafts, I trust you will appreciate what we have to offer 🤍

Our official wedding packages, our info on attire, events and all enquiry and booking forms are now available on our site. They’ve all been streamlined to reach our one email which will help me stay up to date and on top of your online enquiries. I was today years old when I realised some forms were redirecting enquiries to an email I have not checked in months 😅

Thank you soooo much fam for your patience as we continue to fine tune our processes. So blessed this week as we’ve had some bookings come in for 2025 already!

Some unplanned shots on the way to our photoshoot spot! It was a bit of a hike (ha!).

Perhaps one of the most unglamorous parts of all our cultural shoots is the gear we have to carry around and the distance some of my clients have to walk in their attire to get to THE spot 😅 (and this day was actually very hot!!). These guys were such good sports though. I love seeing our people embrace our traditional attire even though it can be quite uncomfortable and sometimes painful (if you’ve worn a Tuiga Fau, then you already know 😅)!

Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing our people take pride in where they come from. It’s why we started Ata Mai Creative… to make these experiences more accessible for our people. Thank you to all our clients who have booked with us over the past year and a bit. Thank you to everyone who has followed and supported us by sharing our work on your socials! God’s definitely been kind to us and your support reassures us of our purpose time and time again 🙏🏽
