What a week it’s been. My spirits have been low this week as cyclone Gabrielle has smashed us around. Have never felt unsafe in our beautiful slice of paradise before, but this week I have been more frightened than I could have imagined. These majestic, giant sentinels that have always given me such peace to live amongst, became ominous shapes moving in frenzied, violent gusts belting up our valley and all around.
All we could do was sit in the dark hoping for the best, so on edge I felt sick to my stomach while my heart pounded out of my chest.
Not possible & too dangerous to leave.
Our neighbour hood along with half the country have been utterly smashed, a few doors up our road has gone, as have so many other roads , homes and people and animals. Tragedy and stress are literally at every bend of the road.
We are some of he lucky ones. Our home survived, albeit narrowly but survive it did, our whanau are whole and safe as are all our fur and feather babies. We are lucky.
We have lost quite a few beautiful trees & debris is everywhere, but our nourishing safe space (even my exotic doesn’t belong garden lol) will be restored as the trauma fades.
So, so lucky and you can bet we are counting our blessings.
Kia kaha xx
