We haven’t quite hit 2 years yet but this milestone deserved a reintroduction! 🪷
Instead of a generic spiel about my passion for flowers I’m going to be real with you 😅
I struggled a lot the year before I created &Flowers. I deliberated for months whether I even wanted to post honestly about this - because some of this stuff is hard to talk about, but at least once a day I get the question “why did you start a flower business?”.
So here’s the truth. I felt abandoned and lost and I wanted to create something that couldn’t leave/reject me 😅. I got rejected from every job I applied to (being a brown women in the design industry didn’t really help matters 😅) I wanted to make money, I wanted to have freedom and be my own boss. I’ve tried selling so many things for the last 10 years and this one stuck.
But to be honest hitting the 6 figure mark so soon in my journey I have realised being a business owner means the exact opposite of rolling around in money and having heaps of free time. The truth is I reinvested a lot of it back into the business, into employees and I myself put in a lot of late nights and early mornings (I USED TO DREAD WAKING UP EARLY, now I weirdly love it!) to get to this point and I obviously couldn’t have done it without support from my friends and family. Whether it be coming into help me deliver a flower load, helping clean up the shop, bringing me food, shooting content for me, buying tickets to my workshops, the has been support endless!!!
My passion for flowers grew, as the business grew. Now I find myself arranging even when I don’t have orders to prepare for. It really did give me a mental health boost and saved me heaps of money on therapy (I’m not kidding 🤣). So I’m just out here trying to convince you guys to buy some once in a while too.
Hopefully in the next few months, we will take steps to refine our systems and products further and hopefully go onto grow a little &Flowers team.
