Final Match Report - Sri Lanka Boys Cricket Tour, 2026

Another fuelling buffet breakfast followed an early morning as the boys headed onto the travelling bus for the last game of the tour. A bittersweet feeling shared amongst us with a determined eagerness to round this incredible tour up on a high note. With a return to the Mandaduwa Ground, the boys were sent into the field by Hambantota. After a strong start with the bat from Hambantota, Lauchie Hunter, formally known as "Uelintine", broke their opening partnership ripping the top of off stump. However, it was Benji 'The Commander' Bridge who shone with the ball, picking up three wickets from the first innings with support from Ardi Dave who finished with two. The boys fell just short of Hambantota’s first innings score, yet still in the match due to strong batting displays from β€˜our local,’ Keshan Karola (34) and D-rans (Dylan Randall) who anchored a 27* not out. The boys managed to restrict Hambantota to just 99 runs in their second innings, leaving a difficult but achievable score for Selwyn College to chase in the last innings. Unfortunately, Selwyn College had to settle for a draw despite a valiant effort with the bat, with standout performances from Jack, 'the Hulk' Lienert and Divesh 'Dking' Kamalaswaren. After the final presentations and socialising with the Sri Lankan opposition, the boys hauled back onto the bus proud of our efforts, sad that the last game had ended, and exhausted.

Overall, the Sri Lanka 2026 tour has been an incredible experience that the boys have all loved. Massive thanks to Mr Pryor and Mr Penfold for making this tour possible, as well Amita for all his organisation. Furthermore, thanks to all the parents for their fundraising and support on the tour.
