Around 300 kids, a room full of families and a LOT of trophies. ⚽🏆

Yesterday the Sir Patrick Hogan Auditorium at Karaka Pavilion was filled for the Manurewa AFC Junior Prizegiving, celebrating another season and all the young players who have been part of it.

Prizegivings are always great events to be involved in. There’s plenty of excitement in the room, plenty of proud families in the audience and, with this many junior players together in one place, plenty happening from start to finish.

It’s also a good reminder of just how versatile the Auditorium at Karaka Pavilion is. From corporate conferences and gala dinners to community events and large-scale prizegivings like this one, it’s a space that can accommodate very different events and make each one work.

Congratulations to all the young Manurewa AFC players who took to the stage yesterday. We hope those trophies have found pride of place at home already. 🏆⚽

For weddings at Karaka Pavilion, there’s an important distinction that’s worth understanding from the beginning: your venue manager and your wedding planner or coordinator have two very different jobs. 🤍

Our role at Karaka Pavilion is to look after the venue. We manage the spaces you’ve booked, access to the property, venue facilities, operational requirements and the things that need to happen on our side to ensure the venue is ready to welcome you and your guests.

A wedding planner or coordinator works for you and manages the wedding itself. They may oversee your run sheet, coordinate suppliers, manage the wedding party, keep track of timings, troubleshoot those inevitable last-minute changes and make sure all the moving pieces of your day come together as planned.

There will naturally be areas where the two roles work closely together, and when they do, it makes for a wonderfully smooth event. But they aren’t interchangeable.

Karaka Pavilion provides an extraordinary setting for weddings, from our grounds and Pavilion to the stables and other spaces across the estate. We’re here to help you understand the venue, what’s possible within it and how it can work for your celebration. There’s an aspect of Karaka Pavilion that isn’t talked about very often, but it’s one of the things that makes this venue genuinely different.

We don’t just host people. We host horses too. 🐎

Karaka is one of those rare places where major human events and a working equine environment exist side by side. Throughout the year, significant numbers of horses move through the facility alongside the conferences, dinners, expos, celebrations and corporate events that now form such an important part of what we do.

Balancing those two worlds requires a different level of care. The standards we maintain, the way our spaces are managed and the attention given to the environment have to work equally well for our human guests and the animals entrusted to the facility.

And perhaps one of the nicest things to see is just how settled the horses can be here, even with people and activity around them. For us, that calm environment is something we take enormous pride in.

There are plenty of event venues in Auckland. There aren’t many that can do what Karaka does.

It’s a very particular combination of heritage, hospitality, equine experience and attention to detail, and one we’re exceptionally proud of.
